Beginning to think it might be worth getting this done on mine watching this thread, just ticked over 82k recently. Car still pulls nicely, engine has always felt strong since I bought it on 70k ish, but I guess as others have said with nothing to compare to it would be difficult to tell if there was a problem... not sure I'm brave enough to attempt it on the driveway!
Still one space left on Stuart's. :poke:

(He's going to love me for this. :D )

  sounds like he's got enough zeds on his drive already (mind you there are worse problems to have!) Might attempt it over the winter when she's all tucked up anyway
Loads of people have done it and there's several threads on here, plus all sorts of videos online.
I did the wife's having never attempted it before and tbh, if you have a bit of mechanical understanding, access to decent tools, patience and the sense to know when to 'phone a friend' it is pretty straightforward.
I did use a reader to reset the adaptations on mine, but I believe it's not strictly necessary as the car will 're-learn' the best settings over the next 100 miles or so.
Going to do the one on my new 2.2i over the next couple of months as well.

James I am a total advocate of doing it:

1) you'll not notice the degradation over time, but when sorted its amazing the difference
2) your car ALWAYS drives better when you've done work to it, its an unwritten law!!!

Seriously its not hard to do if you are fairly competent with spanners- but happy to help in any way

Thanks for the offer, I'm reasonably competent with general maintenance and mechanical stuff - As you say its the gradual degradation that all adds up

This is T-Tony's garage, He's over on the zorg forum mostyl. There's quite a few garages all over the UK that call themselves Zshed and offer to help forum members. We've done two vanos's over the last couple of weeks, really not difficult.

Be handy if there was one closer to me in Swindon...

You have two not to far away. Myself just outside Reading and Lydney shed. Obviously your paying for bacon butties if were fixing your vanos :driving:

Grab all your stuff and head to Lincoln!
Stuart keeps going on about his '4-car drive'. You could do them both side-by-side.

I would (ignoring the 3rd party invitation :p) but 3.5-4 hrs a long time to drive considering the work that's to be done on it!
