Today's investment question - domain names

There was a time when people were paying huge money for generic domain names (e.g. "coffee.com") as they thought that was the way to get people to their web sites.

Actually, must people used search engines to find things, and the really big web sites all use names that either didn't exist or had very different meanings pre-ecommerce ("eBay", "PayPal", "Amazon", "Google", "Apple", etc).

well to give you an example ....... I was looking at a site called boatmad.com and thought that I could go with bikemad.com ........ but it was taken.

Spent a bit of time finding the guy who had it, only to discover that he had no intention of doing anything with it other than sell it for a profit ....... I offered a grand but was not even close .......

I remember slamming the phone down and screaming to myself ....... all I want to do is talk shite about bikes ..... and then the light went on ......... 20 mins later, bikeshite.com was registered for a fiver.

its worth spending time playing with words ......... :D

marilynsworld.com was just plain luck, after watching waynesworld....... I got marilynsworld.com first time.
