to cover, or not to cover? that is the question.

Living within a few miles of the Gulf of Mexico during hurricane season always keeps us coastians on our toes. Since I now own a ragtop, and lack a garage, I'm wondering if I should cover my car in the event of a tropical storm or minor hurricane, to avoid damage to the roof. While I will evacuate northward if a hurricane of category 3 (wind speeds greater than 110 mph) or higher is expected, I'd like to get some input on what to do about a cover for lesser storms. I have a basic car cover with an elastic bottom. Would it be better to leave the car uncovered in a 70 mph storm? With a top speed of more than 150 mph, I'm guessing the Z4 top could handle winds of a Cat 2 storm or less.

The Zed's roof can cope with 150mph wind speed, a fence post travelling at just 40mph will be a totally different matter

surely that 150 mph wind speed means it can cope with the car going at 150mph and as such the wind will be some what channeled over the roof.

i would be hazarding a guess that a cat 2 storm wind is sumwhat different. lets face it you see plenty of images of roofs getting ripped off etc

i would say that cover is probably going to be worse in a storm wich has prolonged wind and just flap about probably causing more scrtaches etc that if you just left it. maybe you should look for a hard top or make sure there is something soft. the last thing you want is the wind getting under the edge and lifitng it off
