hey guys, trying to rectify the stupid airbag light which isnt going well.

run the INPA 5.0.2 program and everything seems to be running correctly but when i click on the airbag button i get this message

(requested control unit: 'AC5M60/V1.00,ACSM85/V1.00,ACSM2' not found.
control unit found 'SIM85',
program will be stopped!)

does anyone know what this message means or how to rectify it ???

Have you tried NCS expert or checked out BMW coding forum, I use it a lot so should be able to find what the problem is.

In INPA you first choose your car type and after that, choose functional jobs, after that f4 read error and f5 delete error.I am not sure about the f4 or f5 , but you will see a taskbar with the name of the function of the key.

thanks mac27040, looks verry similar but my lines didnt match up, ive created a thread on there in hope of some help unless u have any ideas. i have these lines with no mention of airbags

Reviving thread.. I am having the same issues as the OP. Tried modifying some stuff with no luck. Did you ever get it figured out?

Also, my NCSExpert is running well.. how would I go about that route to fix the issue? I'd rather go through this than INPA, unless the INPA is an easy fix.

Do you have the adapter on the end of your OBD plug?

For mine, I need a small block adapter plug which goes on the end of the interface, between the interface and the car. This block allows the car to talk to older vehicles such as the E85.

I think it joins together a couple of pin signals or something.

If I do not have this adapter plug on, I can talk fine to some modules such as DME but not others such as airbag.

Later cars such as E90, E87, etc all work fine on all modules without the adapter, but I need the adapter to fully function on E85, E46, etc.

I am able to connect to many of the modules on the car and reset check engine lights etc.. but I am still having trouble accessing the airbag control module. Same error as the OP and tried following the link on bmwcoding but no luck there. Anyone figured this out?

Your can't access the airbag directly on the E85 using INPA. You need to go in to the Safety module (can't remember the exact name but it's acronym is SIM), and you should be able to see the errors there. I found that whether you can clear the light is down to which error you have, I've done two different cars and only one of them was successful.

It's a bit hit and miss to be honest, but try to get to the errors and see how you go.

Yeah, I couldn't access the SIM85 just like the OP. However, I was able to do a full diagnostic test on the car, and tried to clear all the codes that way. It didn't work though, although I've double checked to make sure the connection is good on the airbag that I disconnected while doing a speaker change. So honestly, I'm not sure if I have to access SIM85 and clear it from there, or if I should continuing checking for a physical fault. Is there any special way of plugging in the optic fiber cable into the airbag unit?

The OPs issue was that he was trying to access the Airbag, but from his original post he could access the SIM (his INPA message says "SIM85 found").

Not sure what is wrong if you can't find the airbag, but maybe the U.S. version is different to the Euro cars, I know you guys do have different modules, as the are some on my INPA which don't exist on my car and are US-only.

There are some dedicated airbag reset tools available, and I did hear that you can do something on NCS as well, but I have no experience of either method.

Oh whoops, I did this a few weeks back and forgot. I found SIM85 as well, but cannot access it by going under the airbag control module. I can, however, access it when I do a full diagnostic on the car for error codes on each module. So my question is should I be able to clear the codes from the entire diagnostic test, or do I have to specifically go into the airbag module? Because when I cleared all codes, the airbag light stayed on, making me think there is a physical connection issue. But I've double checked the connection to the airbag...

If your using DISv57 then you can do a full test, followed by the function button bottom right takes you to another. Screen, go down the left column which show the modules, in the middle column use the read memory then clear/delete memory function. This will tell you what the fault is and clear it, do another retest and check if light stays off.

had the same problem as the OP when I try to clear my airbag light (result of replacing my window regulator and not attaching the airbag). Tried 3 different version of INPA and still cannot access the safety module via INPA to clear the airbag light and INPA threw me the error message:

requested control unit: 'ACSM60/V1.00,ACSM85/V1.00,ACSM2' not found. Control unit found: 'SIM85'.
Program will be stopped!

I had the dealer cleared the airbag light for free using the Version 5.1 Creator C310 Multi System Diagnostic Scan Tool For C310 BMW Code Reader with Clear Adaptation and Engine Oil Reset Function. It's only $75 on Amazon. Hopefully this will help to save you some headache clearing the Airbag light and not dealing with the "'ACSM60/V1.00,ACSM85/V1.00,ACSM2' not found. Control unit found: 'SIM85'.

I solved my AirBag light issue on my 2003 z4 2.5I this was my situation and the proceidure:
Airbag light came on, I tried using INPA with cable from BMtechnic (now no longer available) when accessing light module I got the same error message:

requested control unit: 'ACSM60/V1.00,ACSM85/V1.00,ACSM2' not found. Control unit found: 'SIM85'.
Program will be stopped!

I want to note that I was once able to clear the airbag light using this method with the same software on this car but now it seems to not be able to read it. so something must have changed in the vehicle that isn't allowing INPA to read properly. (possibly a weak battery)

then I tried reading all codes in INPA. while this displayed some errors it did manage to read the error messages. the code I got was the following:

93E7 unterspannung erkannt (My INPA is in german) meaning :93E7 Airbag sensor, door, front right: incorrect measuring range.

A google search links the code to a failing battery or un proper connection. I tested my battery by charging it and letting it sit over night and using a multi meter at the battery terminals. it read 12.5 this is good.

reading the above post and in desperation I bought: "Version 5.5 Creator C310 Multi System Diagnostic Scan Tool For C310 BMW Code Reader with Clear Adaptation and Engine Oil Reset Function"

from ebay user autoobd2tool2012 paid 54.57 Shipped (it says it comes from china but actually it shipped from california) got to chicago in about 4 days.

using the Creator tool mentioned above once again got the same code reading the airbag module. 93E7 went ahead and cleared the error 3 or 4 times and nothing airbag light still on.

it then occurred to me to switch off the passenger airbag by turning the switch in the passenger door to rule out a bad passenger occupancy sensor. once again cleared the code and it made no difference. the airbag light didn't even blink.

I started thinking maybe other modules might store airbag related faults.

such as "satellite pillar left" "satellite pillar right"

using Creator tool I went into the "satellite pillar left" where I found the following code.

"984A Resistance, firing circuit, front airbag, left, stage1(E85), or active head restraint, front left(E6x), to high. "
see picture below.

now we are on to something. I had installed a z4 M steering wheel and had triggered a airbag light which I cleared in the past using INPA but that was going trough the airbag module not the sattelite pillar left.

So I cleared the code in satellite pillar left and BINGO ! the Airbag went off immediately and stayed off after restarting the car.

so there you have it, moral of the story is check all modules for airbag related codes.

also in retrospect my battery is 5 years old, and my car is 13 year old. its possible an old battery even though it test out ok in addition to an old car and in addition to letting the car sit for months at the time without a battery tender. might trigger airbag faults like this simply because cables loose their ability to carry voltage over time.
