Tire Pressure Monitor

Hi, i was driving to work this morning and the Tire Pressure Monitor light came on... I have checked in the manual as to what exactly this means however i am a little uncertain.

Does it mean the tire is damaged or could it mean that one of my tires lost pressure.

I am also a little confused as it seems to contradict itself in the manual:

The red warning lamp in the instrument cluster lights up when a tire has failed - what does failed mean

The Flat Tire Monitor cannot alert you to severe and sudden tire damage caused by external factors AND another factor which the Flat Tire Monitor does not recognize is the even and very gradual pressure loss that takes place in all tires over an extended period of time. - so when does it recognize loss of pressure

the warning light indicates a pressure differential has occurred between tyres. Could be due to all sorts of things.

Check all tyre pressures, carry out visual check for damage and reinflate as necessary - then reset system as per handbook and monitor it.
 
If it's as cold there as it's been here,the drop in temperature could have set it off.
 
Not sure about that as in the UK as the system uses the ABS to check the relative rotation of wheels and thus determine if the pressure has dropped.
 
Thanks... i have pumped up all tires as they were all down... they were fine 3 weeks ago but we have had the coldest Christmas in years over here so that is the only factor i could think of, thanks again for your help
 
CJ am I right in thinking the 108s aren't traditional split rims as such, i.e. they won't leak air like the real thing could?

Well they are split rims in the sense that they are made of 2 distinct parts , but in the sense you refer to they are one piece in that the tyre sits on is a single part (inner to outer bead) and not itself joined as say 3 part rims would be.

I had one leak through a bolt hole and had to put a bit of sealer into the bottom before refitting it. Took me ages to figure out.

Yep - I wasn't expecting is at I'd refurbed them took them in for new tyres and one went down over the course of a week. Fitter reseated the tyre and it went down in another week. Once off it was easy to see a bubble every minute or so, from the bolts as in the video once I'd added washin up liquid to show the bubble
