Time to get back in an E86 after 10 years away

No VAT to be added for trade, only over the profit level.

What did Motorway state out of interest? I generally work on the Motorway + 2k or so as what you should expect to pay for it.

Just under 9K from Motorway. He’s going to do a full service and 3 months warranty. I’ve also re-read the additional docs he’s sent over and there is some service history, so not as bad as I first thought.

My guess was not bad then :D

The warranty is I assume a third party one so worth a couple of hundred for 3 months.

Just mind the insurance value, as if it was stolen on day 1 of your ownership, you would get 9k max for it and as you have seen, there are enough out there for the insurance company to "prove" that it is not worth more.

Awesome feedback everyone and very much appreciated. I always found this forum super useful back in 2011 when I had my last E86!

Glad to see things haven’t changed. I’m off to see it tomorrow, so fingers crossed.

Hoping to be joining the Forum properly very soon!

That looks way over-priced for a car with no service history.

And you'll have a problem when you do come to sell it!

They aren't that rare, so I'd be looking elsewhere.

It looks like a nice car to me, lots of goodies, if a tad boring black/black/Alu combination.

Zachary Luke tends to put out quite expensive cars and I don’t know how much they are prepared to negotiate. I would have thought about £13k for this mileage and spec with service history; but without . . .? I’d be looking elsewhere as it’s definitely not a bargain.

Here’s one for comparison, although it’s been for sale for quite a while.

Thanks Zedebee.

Prior to my purchase I was watching the market for Coupes closely for about a year. As everyone else mentioned, the pricing is coming down gradually. I've seen some on here start at 10k and drop down to 8k, people aren't buying 3.0 2 seaters with fuel at the high, inflation hitting people and bills rising so you're in a good spot as a buyer.

Not in a million years would I buy that car. The only reason to buy a low mileage car is to preserve and hit resale, which the no FSH negates. I paid £7995 for mine, spent well over a grand already and won't ever see that back, probably sell it for around 7.5ish because the market is dead.

Don't rush into the purchase, I think 10/11k would find you a nice private sale with the FSH. For that money I'd save up the extra and buy an M for what it's worth, although appreciate the ownership cost is a different beast altogether.

I'd also look to buy one from the forum, likely well looked after vs a normal owner. I went to see 3 or 4 before getting this one, some are very ropey and very much overhyped by their owner with FSH but haven't had a service for 2 years, or haven't seen an inspection 2 for years, which I'd argue if you're skimping on when owning one of these, what else are they skimping on.

Just my insight, happy to be told otherwise!

Always happy for additional insights :) . Notice your's is an Auto... I've only been looking at manuals and know that the Auto vs Manual debate has been covered on this Forum to death... Did you specifically want an Auto? How is it?

I had an auto in my 330D and loved it. You could argue, and most do you're more engaged with a manual, load of rubbish in reality since you can hold the gear equally as long in sport mode or with the paddles.

I drove a number, some auto and some manual and found the auto box was leagues above the manuals in terms of time off the line without feeling like you were abusing it, the smoothness of gear changes, the ease of driving and in reality it's not a superlight MX5/MR2/Elise so 9/10 you're driving it normally and you get to chill out.

Both are lovely but I'd not hesitate to try an auto. I also get around 27mpg around town and 35-40mpg on a run so it's hardly killing the economy too, however I do appear to have found one that has been very much looked after for the mileage which is 125k!

Notice the link to the advert of the car on autotrader has deposit taken on it.

Do you decide to go with this one in the end?

Morning - I did go and see it yesterday and it looks in amazing condition and drove well. Managed to negotiate a decent amount off the price and Zach will be getting a service done at M-Tek in Northampton and will sort anything that comes up. I also have asked for the Water Pump to be checked and it will get sorted if it needs doing. As such I have placed a holding deposit.

I went through the paperwork with a fine tooth comb and there is more service history than I first thought. I have also taken a view (man maths wise) that it has all the options I want, plus the CSL wheels and full Pilot Sports from Dec 2021, both options I would have been buying adding to other cars I've been looking at, hence it pretty much nets out against some cheaper cars.

On thing that has come up this morning mind you, whilst getting some insurance quotes the car came back as an SE Coupe rather than Sport. Having been on the forum it appears that does happen quite a bit. The build document I have from BMW shows it has every Sport option it.

Good news, man maths at its best

Glad it worked for you, I guess you haven't seen the V5 to see if it says 'si' on it?

No, haven’t seen the V5, but the HPI, Full check I bought has it listed as BMW Z4 3.0si Coupe

The print out from BMW also has it listed as 3.0si and it lists all the Sport components.

Apologies if you already know this, all BMW Z4 Coupes are 3.0Si, that’s the engine designation. Then they are either “Sport” or “SE”. Therefore yours could either be a Sport, or an SE with some Sport options specified.

The differences between SE and Sport as standard are M-Sport seats (not to be confused with sport seats which are standard on the SE), lower suspension by 15mm, slightly thicker Anti roll bars, some M-Sport badging and internal trim differences.

You could probably find out for sure by entering the VIN into a vin decoder such as bimmer.work which will tell you the factory spec and options list.

Thanks for the extra insights. Defo got all the M Sport elements. Out of interest I did a none scientific review of some of the cars on AutoTrader and Pistonheads and pretty much all the late 2008 and 2009 Z4 Coupe all come out as SE’s even when they are clearly full Sport Spec.

Morning All, after 10 years away I am finally back and looking for an E86. Found one that is the exact spec I want but sadly it is lacking a service history... So reaching out to the Forum so see if anyone knows the following car...

Black BMW 3.0si Sport - Original Reg YK09 RKU, private plates of 22YXE, C6CRC, G12AME

The full background check looks OK, MoT and mileage seems to stack up, but the lack for service history has me worried. I spoke to my local BMW garage this morning and the VIN number confirmed the build and spec are bang on, but no service. Now that could be because it was a 2009 car and they didn't digitise their service records until a few years later.

The urge to buy a Coupe now has me making rash decisions :)

So any help appreciated.

If anyone is looking at selling their car, I am interest in a Sport, Manual with Cruise control and headed seats (ideally), and either Black, Grey or Silver.

Hi there I've got one in Montego blue one if that's any good?

Thanks, however I have put a deposit down on one and it’s currently getting serviced and few bits sorting.
