time to change

Had my current 28i for 2 years, feeling like a change.

I don't want another 2 seater car, I need more space, but I do want to keep the sports feel and look. I'm going to keep the zed until September or so to enjoy the summer weather, if we get any, then do a px for a new(ish) car.

I'm thinking about a BMW 4 series or an Audi A5 Coupe Black. Any views?

BMW M135i? Or BMW M235i

Both still very capable cars but have more seats and a decent size boot.

Even by September used 4 series will be thin on the ground. It will still probably be ex demo, staff cars and are regs or stock. A factory order with model support discount often makes more sense.

I'm guessing you want petrol? I wouldn't buy the 2l version of either car you mention. They just aren't great and aren't desirable so suffer on residuals. I'd also avoid a manual a5 of any description. I had one as a courtesy car and it has the most horrendous offset pedals and therefore the worst driving position I've ever experienced.

Looking at those 2 cars I'd look to an s tronic S5. Used are well priced now. Or I'd see what could be done on a 6 pot 4 series and wouldn't rule out new.

I would have the 4 Series over an A5 which to me are one of the blandest looking cars on the road although most Audis seem to fall into that category lately, I used to love Audis of the late 90s as back then they looked really modern and drove well compared to anything else at the time.

I would have a chat with your BMW dealer, theres plenty of good dealer offers topped off with BMW contributions on new cars at the mo that makes them much more attractive than buying nearly new.

I will be sorry to see the Zed go in a few weeks purely on the looks but then a no brainer swapping to the M135i on the same monthly cost.

Tim.

M235i all day long. I almost bought one, before opting for my z4 35is. Had also driven the Audi S5 but its the most bland car i driven in a long time

If you thought the S5 was bland to drive you should try a 2.0 petrol A5. I also hate how people buy into the whole Black edition thing. It's just some different coloured wheels and a black grill, that's not even a trim level let alone a special edition. Audi are very good at marketing, i'll say that.

My car share mate has one. A5 black addition 2.0 td it bores me even going to work lol. He had a 3.0 td convertible for a courtesy car the other week, gave me a shot,it's pish poor too :D car park at work is full of them a4 & a5 black additions. A few of them keep telling me they can get to work in the winter, when our bm's are stuck in the drive. Haha never been stuck in 14 years yet !

Bland some say but the Audi is just so well put together and the interiors are superb. Ok it hasn't got that instant "ooh look at me " appeal but it does what is supposed to do without fuss or glitz!
