It is well over two months since taking delivery of the new car but have not received a v5 yet. How long does it normally take ?

Still not had one for the Imola M I bought in March Paul....selling the thing on Tuesday....

dvla are a joke... :x

When you look online, it is supposed to take 1 to 2 weeks for a new car and you have to pay £25 to get it if you haven’t got it in 4 weeks. They are having a laugh, right …

Of all the cars I've bought in the last two years (which is a few) none took longer than 4 working days. I think the DVLA are shite hot at changing V5c details TBH. Bought my lastest on Friday 2nd June, got the new V5 on Wednesday 7th.

You said the last owner waited until the end of the month before contacting the DVLA, so you could save a month's tax. Are you sure they actually did let them know? :? Or maybe they sent the old one by post rather than online? Or maybe the previous owner got your address wrong?

Always had the V5 within a month of a new car delivery.

Has the dealer sorted it out correctly, not messed up?

DVLA are usually pretty good.

Tim.

I bought my 28i on 5th May. I don't remember the exact date when it arrived, but I have had the V5 for several weeks.

Dvla are great at the things that work and utterly useless with the things that don't.
My company bought a used van from a van dealer. It was an ex utility company van that came through the auctions and did not come with a v5 which is apparently quite normal for these. It came with a v62 and we could not tax it using this form.
After a phone call to dvla they requested that the v62 was sent to them along with the £25 fee. This was done although the girl in our office mistakenly sent the v10 tax form with it.
5 weeks later the original documents turned up with no v5. After another call to dvla they said all the documents were sent back as there was no payment included for the tax. Instead of completing the v5 side of it they just sent everything back.
The v62 has now been sent on its own and hopefully the v5 will arrive sooner than the estimated 2-4 weeks.
They should have a system where people can tax vehicles immediately without the v5 if they can see everything is above board.
The van has now been sitting in our workshop untaxed and unused for 7 weeks now.

Tax is ok for me as it is elec, so 0. Just want the paperwork finished as I only have the submission document from the VW dealer which they send to DVLA.

I won't send them that £25 though, apparantly you don't have to send that if you notify them that you haven't received the V5 within 4 weeks. I am obviously out of that time frame but hadn't even thought about the form until I was selling the Jeep and was going through the V5C forms and noticed it was missing.
