Time for service? Other things to consider

Hi,

I picked up a 3.0 Z4 coupe last year. Register Dec 2006 and had done approx 2000 miles when I bought it in the 18 months the previous owner had it.

Car is now up to 5600 miles and is obviously miles away from the service indicated on the on board computer displays. Give that the car has just gone past its second birthday should I be taking it in? The car has given me no problems (i've probably just jinxed it!) but should I be taking it in for a precautionery service/other things to be done or looked at?

I have been tempted to leave it another 6 - 9 months and then get it properly checked over just in case any problems are occuring that I may not know about which I could then get addressed under warranty.

Any recommedations would be appreciated.
Cheers

Oil changes are required at least once a year if you don't drive enough to reach the service interval within a year. Oil breaks down over time and needs to be refreshed regularly.

Good evening,

Along with the oil change, I would recommend brake fluid and cooling. If you really want to do the complete job, include the transmission. Consider rebalance of the tires and wheels. Check wheel stud torque. Wheel alignment, maybe. Then, you would be comfortable that most of the critical items have been taken care of since you've had possession. Then, go out and enjoy your ride. :driving:

Have a great day!

You should have had a little clock come up near the odometer recently as your car like mine requires its 2 year service before the mileage one.

The dealer will change the oil and brake fluid when it's two years old, doing coolant every four years.

As srhutch says.

Its a variable service for these cars - mileage or 2yrs. Mine has just had the clock appear and is booked in for the 6th March (2yrs old on the 15th March).

I'd get it in as quickly as you can, just to keep up the history.

Another tip is to have another service done about 2 weeks before the warranty runs out, along with the MOT - if anything crops up, you can get it done under warranty

Every 2 years irrespective of anything else, or as mileage countdown indicates (from the manual)

Just throwing this on to an existing thread.

I reset my service interval light onto oil from insp2 (as it was due an oil, but had insp2 instead, so when reset by BMW it went to insp), but I accidentally made the time interval (used for biannual brake fluid) move on one year... will BMW be able to roll that back to the correct date? Can I do that at all?

Thanks

Dave

I you rolled it forward a year surely you can do the same again. It only displays a symbol every two years, I dont believe any other info is given, the delaer would then just go on the age of the car as to what requires changing.

It was 09/10 (was last done in Sept 08, so makes sense to say Spet 2010) and went to 09/11 (Sept 2011)

I'll just pester BMW to sort it... I'll remember myself anyway so not fussed, just it's nice to know how to tinker with all these things :) (tis very complicated via the dash buttons though, I assume BMW have a decent GUI/keyboard driven tool for this)

Thanks

Dave

The owners book states oil every 2 years regardless of milage done, unless done sooner in scheduled service.

Brake fluid is every 2 years as indicated by the on board computer.

Everything else is worked out by the computer based on how hard the car is driven. Most people will find this is around 15000 miles which could be over 1, 2, 3, 4 ect years.
