Throttle adaption reset

If you have different people driving your car, or have been doing a lot of town driving, this can help to reset the throttle responsiveness back to factory defaults.

Turn ignition off
Turn key to "on" position
Wait 15 seconds
Turn ignition off
Wait another 15 seconds

Start the car.... you should find the responsiveness has been reset.
 
Hey, sp3ctre, I've seen this several times before on other BMW forums. The wait period has always been 10 seconds. I'm no expert here, so I'll leave the 10 vs 15 second issue up to you.
 
The other way is to disconnect the battery for 20 minutes. Once reconnected the computer is forced to reboot. You have to reset your clock, date and windows though.
 
guys as a noobie at the forum and also with my z4 i would like to know what exactly does this reset does...!

first of all does it affects consumption? second is it harmful to do it many times? once a month for example? and also does it affects the clutch? (i am saying it because when i did it i felt that changing gear became more ''hard''.
 
Doesn't do any damage-you're merely resetting the adaptive throttle response. Your car "learns" how you drive and adapts. If you've done a lot of in-town driving, the response gets set to less responsive (you're only giving it a little gas and you're doing a lot of idling). The reset only affects throttle response, but since it's almost always quicker after reset, you have be ready for it shifting gears. If you're always driving in the same place, though, it's not really worth it. Those of us who do a lot of "mixed" driving, the in-town stuff can bog them down.
 
I've just bought a Z4 Coupé and find this very interesting; I'll try it tonight! However, someone above mentions resetting windows... What is there on the windows that I can set?
 
Sometimes the windows lose their one-touch up/down function. Resetting the windows fixes this. It is different to the throttle body reset though, the windows don't alter the throttle :D

oh that depends entirely... I've definately found that the throttle is usually more open if the windows are DOWN in a tunnel, rather than up...
 
Beware disconnecting the battery, it can also deactivate other features on the central body electrics as I have found out. No aircon fan speed only works on slow and the heated rear screen is deactivated. This was due to letting the battery run down over the winter in the garage. Its going in next week to be reset at the dealer.... and yes I have tried disconnecting the battery for 20 mins and its still the same. :headbang:

The Zed will remain on a trickle charge once its rectified, not paying twice .....

I assume disconnecting the battery turns off the radio... either that or you have a very special radio :poke: ;)
 
Slightly off topic again........

I performed this for the first time today. The majority of my driving is stop start. I'm amazed at the difference in resetting.

Moreover, upon resetting, the power of my heater seems to have doubled. Would this slso be expected?

I'd be interested to know if this is the same process for the e89, has anyone tried it? I've had a quick look for mention in other threads but haven't found anything yet.
 
Hopefully this works on my 2.0 have spent 95% of last 6 months pootling around town so will give this a go! Fingers crossed :)
