Thoughts on this Z4 3.0si?

Good evening,

I have owned a Z4 3.0i and now am looking for a 'weekend' car and thought I would look at a 3.0si.

This one has been advertised on Pistonheads and I thought I would ask on this forum for any thoughts regarding this particular car. I am quite drawn to the colour combo but have only seen the photos - it seems to break up the black on black.

The only thing extra I wanted was sat nav but I know the integrated unit on this model is not up to much - is a portable job a better bet?

The interior is a tad "Marmite", perhaps? Worth considering for resale in the future.

Aside from that, seems like a good price. Looks tidy from the pics, although seems to be missing a few angles.
 
There is a black with black interior on AT that has sat nag and the rest of the trimmings but is £1000 more.

I have gone round the houses on what to get (all convertibles) from Audi A4 3.2, Audi S4, E46 330ci, E46 M3, E90 330i (proportions just look wrong in my eyes) and keep coming back to the Z4!

+2 on that. You'd be getting a far newer model with everything sorted, 265bhp against 231, a known history facelift model for just a little more. It is higher mileage and an auto but well worth consideration - some prefer the auto and it is very well maintained - have a read through the extensive posting.

The auto is ace, and it's cheaper on here than on AT :wink: However, completely understand you wanting a manual. Personally I love the yellow/black interior, however I wonder if that interior has been retrofitted as I thought that individual spec came with a leather dash :?

Righto Junglie - worth drawing to your attention though. I like the interior on the 3.0i you're looking at - good luck with your search - keep an eye on the Forum as there have been some nice early cars come up for sale lately at a slightly lower price.

I wish everybody would write an advert like that rather than the usual rubbish you find on so many sites. I would have that like a shot based on the advert alone if that was the spec I was after (ie manual) but alas this is not to be.

The 2 other 3.0si that I like are linked here. The price is going up with each one and after you are looking at £9000 for one you then say 'why not just through an extra few £ at it and get a Z4M!'

Well the 2 cars on AT have been sold so only 'Bumble Bee' left for now. Not sure if I should jump at this one or wait for a few weeks.

The price is good but it does not have sat nav or cruise - neither are retro fit options if I understand correctly?
 
That would be good. I thought I read in the FAQ that a 2003 car was easy but the rest did not have the correct hard wiring?
 
Both satnav and cruise can be retrofitted. PVR retrofitted satnav to his first Z - you need to be brave though... There is a how-to on here. Jan_tekin and I helped each other fit cruise to our facelifts - you have to cut wires and run the loom, as well as cut the lower steering cowl, but again there is a how-to on here.
 
I think I would be a bit scared to do that - may just have to wait until the perfect car comes along with everything I desire! Moon on a stick!
 
Cruise is easy - if Jan and I can do it in an afternoon, anyone can - all I know about 'modifying' cars I learnt on this forum, I am no engineer or sparky. Satnav is one I wouldn't attempt though.

Oh, and if you're near other members there are always people willing to help out. I wouldn't walk away from a car if it didn't have cruise... Actually, I didn't :D
 
Dan - I start a new job next month, which comes with a rather tasty selection of lease cars to choose from. Therefore, it's looking probable mine with be for sale within a couple of months (pending how long it takes for the lease car to arrive). It's on 58k at the moment. You'll struggle to find a higher spec 3.0si - see my sig for details :thumbsup:
 
Black with yellow is awesome. Bumblebee look isn't everyone's cup of tea but if you like it that's all that matters
