Very interesting engine development in F1 that when explained is so obvious, and I've no doubt it will appear in new road car engines in the near future. The latest F1 V6 turbo's use a third less fuel than the old V8 N/A engines and produce more power, how? There is a small separate chamber next to the spark plug that the plug ignites, it does'nt ignite the main normal chamber, then the ignited fuel/air is directed into the main chamber at certain tactical points thus causing ignition throughout the mixture at once in these different locations rather than the plug firing the mix and letting the burn spread out, as in engines at the moment, so you get the whole mix ignited sooner, more efficiently thus needing less fuel.
