I wouldn't be surprised if its not a simple case of some one hacking in via a wifi connection.
You only see the car being broken into so no idea of how long the theif was by the car etc.
I read a paper about how computer scientist prof was able to hack into a car on the freeway using a standard laptop. Basically the security on some of the wifi style devices like tyre pressure sensors is s**t and provide a portal. Once in they were able to do stupid stuff like disable the engine. The pressure sensors were the most likely target which is good as over here we don't tend to use such systems instead use a calculated thing using the abs
