This better not be any of you

I HATE it when people do that... I always get as close as possible to the car in front so as to make it immediately obvious that I don't intend on letting the w*nker in

what if they genuinely made a mistake though, ie don't know the area etc...

would it not be better to let them in than obstruct the other lane

:exitright:

not advocating the behaviour

Yeah I'm sad to say I've been that guy in London a couple of times. Now though the main route I take to my girls, I know fairly well so I don't do that anymore. If that does happen to me I always be sure to wave at the driver who let me in. I usually won't force my way in either.

my pet hate, especially hate it when going into roadworks and some idiot drives down the outside and pushes in :headbang:

I know what you mean, probably happened to me once or twice in unknown areas...

Cars Behind me = Go straight on, pull a u-turn when available, go the correct direction thanks to hindsight.
No cars behind me = Either above or look rather sheepishly at someone as soon as ive realised (dont push in too far) and give a big thankyou wave.

mistakes happen, you can tell when its a mistake by the expression on their faces, let them in without a worry

you do get a feeling about whether they have done it deliberately or not though...

if deliberate I don't make it easy either :D

Interesting as the correct way to approach roadworks is to flow to the point at which they start to go to less lanes and then merge together alternately. Seems pretty stupid to all cram into one lane backing up the road, equally I know the clown you mean that roadhogs down the outside and then forces in.

My real pet hate is the holier than though driver (usually truck) that decides he'll control the road and in worst case does as to mmm five and takes his wing off

I think in most instances as aebous illustrates there is a way of judging by vehicle position, driver, spedd, forcefulness, etc. as to whose made a lane mistake, who's chancing it a bit and the outright arse.

That is the highway code as CJ said. I don't subsrcibe to the sheep behaviour and will use the lane until it starts to merge. The police are finally pulling truck drivers over who don't know the highway code either and start blocking lanes.

Well, yeah... obviously where it's not intentional, then I let the guy in. Or in the case of roadworks/accident on the motorway where it makes no sense to all cram in one lane.

But those aren't the situations being illustrated here

I'm with CJ and pvr on this. There's big signs at roadworks that say USE BOTH LANES and MERGE IN TURN. If people continue past that merge in point then that's different but backing up one lane and ignoring the other one/two/three is daft.
