Third Stop Lamp Problem

Hey guys,

Has anyone noticed their third brake lamp on the trunk starting to chip around the edge? Only thing that is conducive to this kind of wear and tear is closing the trunk too hard, or during a hand wash or perhaps just cheap material. Has anyone gotten it replaced? This is the real OEM link:

I was dusting my car just a while ago and decided to examine the back and found this problem. Sigh, but the light still works and it is near unnoticeable unless you look for it.

I've realized this is about the 3rd topic I've made in 2 weeks on problems with the z4. Seems to be these small nagging problems, but what car doesn't have them, right?

not chipping, but cracks in the corners yes - known problem the springs where too strong. Later cars had different. It is quite easy to change yourself

Every car has some little problems :D

Real common problem. caused partly as gannet suggest by spring mounts being screwed down too tight, but I also think it's flexing of the boot lid. Actually a poor design and mine went too. Replaced it with a clear that went too and then got a free one from the dealer.

They are about £50 in the UK with clear slightly cheaper than red and frankly if the design has changed I can't tell

The spring on the newer ones were supposed to be less stiff so putting less stress on the corners.

I changed my springs for the newer ones when I changed the light

Even though the TIS doc that is floating around suggested that my car should have the less powerful springs you could tell the difference with the ones I took out :D

mmm - mine never came with replacement springs. I just put less turns on the retaining nuts
