Third brake light replaced. So the fitted light - OEM BMW Hella dated 2015 broke up after 5 years. BMW replacement £87 plus. Bought this one from Bangood for £21.63. delivered in 4 days. Fits at least as well as the original although I might run a clear bead of silicone in joint.

I bought a Chinese knock off job from a company called Autofashion i think. That was about three years ago. I avoided the temptation to over tighten the nuts as the unit does not quite sit flush boot lid Not noticed any sign of water ingress so far.
Robert.

Looks just fine to me. 8)

I think how long they last depends on how tight the screws are and how many bumps you drive over. My original didn't last long, before it cracked. Replaced with OEM which seems to ne fairing far better. I used the original scews and springs again. But I didn't tighten them up nearly as much as they where. :)

If you tighten the nuts against the shoullder of the retaining bolt then the only force on the plastic light itself is from the compressed springs.

If you do overtighten the bolt then it is being overtightened against the shoulder unless you really overtighten it and then you run the risk of breaking the Hex head of the bolt out of the plastic after which ity will always be loose.

The curcature of the lamp itself is adequate but I have sealed the edge with silicon clear.
Time will tell.

I think a BMW / Hella original failing in 5 years is unacceptable - the old lamp was datestamped an Manf in 2015 and its been broken for a while.

I installed one just after getting my Z as the original was cracked. Bought online for very little and did the install myself. Relatively easy to install but as other have said don’t over tighten anything. I ran a bead of clear silicone around the edge just in case.
