Thinking taking the Z to Dubai...

Hi guys, I’m in the process of applying for jobs in the UAE. I was just wondering if anyone has experience with importing their car into Dubai and if it’s actually worthwhile.
Also if any Ex-Pats could give me any bits of advice or share their experiences of living in the UAE I’d be grateful.

Thanks

Im out tere every couple of weeks on business and I think AlanJ also works out there.
Drove once; never again. Its not so much the Emiratis (although do drive V fast) but the pakistani/Banglideshi taxi drivers. Completley manic and when you are in the taxi with them you can understand why we have so many issues around the world.
Whilst I was out last week there they had one pile up that I believe involved over 100 cars!!
Then you have the issue of parking - theres no such thing. You just park where there is a space irresoective if it is the road.
Stll fancy taking the Z?
Finally temps in Summer are +50 degC so it will be the roof up then!!

dads got his Z4 down the road in oman and we've driveninto Dubai alot. traffic is crap and the drivers are also, I'd rather be in the hummer.

get a 4x4, leave the zed at home

I work in Oman and would go along with both previous posters comments. Traffic is shocking and driving is worse in Oman and UAE although the back roads in Oman are great. I exported my R1 bike out here and after 4 years am trying to ship it home. Too hot, too dangerous. 4X4 is definitely the way forward.

On another note if you are looking to sell then I might be interested. I'm looking for a Z4 for the UK when I'm there.

if you live in oman you might have seen our z4 around.

blue roadster that has a hardtop most of the time. lives in AL-Allam / mq

Have lived in the UAE for the past 3 years and can tell you the driving ability is atrocious. I drive a 4 x 4 for safety and security AND you can't register a RHD car in the UAE if you were thinking of importing one. Happy to give you more 'living' info if required.

Funny you should say that, I was just thinking that I've never seen a Z4 in the 4 years I've been here. Closer to the airport than MQ though which may explain it.

Seen several Zeds in the UAE but usually with some bizarre modifications - crome rims, ridiculous spoilers etc.

No I'm a teacher at The Sultan's School.

Good point about importing RHD's - you can't do it in Oman either so it may be a mute point anyway.
