Thinking of selling - to fix up or not to fix up

Think of selling my e85 3.0i as had a few issues with it and tbh could do with the money to do up the house. Car is 2003 Z4 3.0i SMG in sterling grey with 125k on clock. MOT till Apr-20, leather heated seats, climate control, pro stereo with DSP.

Question is, do I sell as a project car to someone (few minor issues) or fix these issues then sell on?

These are...

  • 1 x headlight is a bit foggy (will sort)
  • Bonnet struggles to open at the moment - will replace catches etc this week!
  • MOT raised issue of front discs being a bit worn, pitted or scored
  • MOT raised issue of rear differential mounts worn
  • Inspection 2 service due October
  • issue with mirrors not adjusting up
  • temperamental drivers electric window switch
  • 1 dent in passenger door, a scuff on the rear bumper, and a minor scrape down one side. Minor rust bubbling on real quarter and in 1 spot on bonnet.
  • Alloys have kerb rash, and 2 have been repaired due to pothole damage

As you would expect, webuyanycar offered about £1200 but not sure what price I'd get if I sell it as an ongoing project or whether to fix some of the bits and sell it with these results.
Any thoughts?
 
If you can fix things yourself then that should add value. Whatever don't give it away to we Rob any car.com
 
The bonnet catch issue could just be a gunked up mechanism or a stretched cable. I had the same issue and I replaced the cable, which cured it a bit but didn't fix it completely.

I then sprayed wd40's degreaser product directly into the mechanism and the amount of debris, dirt and grease that came out of it was crazy. I then sprayed wd40's white lithium grease directly onto the mechanism and catches and it works perfectly now. Cost me just over a tenner, a few cloths and some cotton buds to remove the grease.

The mirror switch is also another issue I had. I managed to get the switch working correctly again by spraying some contact cleaner into the switch, but it failed again a week later. A new switch cured the problem completely and it was only about £40 from ebay :thumbsup:

These 2 problems are cheap fixes that you might aswell fix if you have an hour of your time and 50 quid.
 
There's nothing particularly terrifying on that list. I'd probably fix it up a bit - bodywork aside - and keep or move it on.

Thanks, I tried a load of release spray etc then regreasing the mechanism but it wouldn't open the first time I tried it after.

Bought some contact cleaner so I might give that a try on the switch, only seems to play up when trying to raise the window, no issues going down.

I'll try the mirrors again, might have a go carefully dismantling them to see if there's something wrong with the up mechanism
 
Unless you enjoy chasing your tail do what you can that costs pennies then peddle the car on ebay acknowledging it needs attention in places , with a fair wind & the sun in the sky you might get £1750 even £2k if the buyer has a squint :roll:
Grim reality is even in fine fettle you will struggle to see much more than £2500 for the car from your description :(

Retried the bonnet catch today and it works fine - think the mechanism just got gunked up. Also sprayed contact cleaner onto the electric window switch and that worked fine as well :thumbsup:
