Thinking of getting Z4 coupe

Hi all,

First post here, looks like a great site (have been using briskoda for useful info on my other car, an octavia vrs, for ages). Have a fairly definite green light from SWMBO to get a second (fun) car and liking the idea of a Z4 coupé a lot (no interest in a roadster). Budget 10-12k (the closer to 10 the better), not particularly fussed whether SE or Sport (tbh not sure I've fully grasped the differences). Colour - most except silver. Black looks really good, saw a red one which to my surprise looked great. Manual, definitely. Like every other buyer, the lower the miles and younger the car, the happier I'll be. Hoping that a pretty tidy 60k max and 2007 car should be possible ... 2008 seems like a stretch (if Autotrader is to be believed).

I would rather like 17" wheels for ride quality but it sounds like most people have specced up bigger wheels from new - am I right in thinking that the Sport had 18s as standard anyway?

Optional extras - I'm fairly open-minded. I guess cruise control, auto wipers/lights, electric memory seats. Newish decent tyres would be a big plus.

If you're thinking of selling, let me know, otherwise very much up for any advice or suggestions - trying to arm myself with the knowledge to get a great car.

EDIT - I'm in Bath, happy to travel 100 miles or so, Scotland probably too far!

Hi Paul,
Thanks for the reply - I think an 03 is probably older than I was hoping for, unless it was a fairly low miler and the price was pretty good. couldn't find it on PH - you got more info posted anywhere?

It's not 2003 car, coupe only came after 2006.

heh, yeah i was a bit surprised not having seen any others that old. need a bit more info from paul i guess...

EDIT - seen from another thread it's an auto. i definitely want a manual, so thanks anyway Paul but I'm out.

You want a sport for sure (lower stance 10 mm better spec , lovely M steering wheel , kick plates etc)... and you want as much spec as possible, if not for you but for resale. There are some real poverty spec Zed's out there need to dodge them.

Generally people want

Heated Seats
Sat Nav - With Upgraded sounds system DSP I think
Upgraded Dash and trim , although I quite liked silver look
Xexons! , the standard lights are like candles

These are the key ones to look out for... or if you can stretch get the M is worlds apart and for a second car Ideal, ultimately will hold its value where the coupes will continue to decline in value. The theatre and charm of the M is second to none and look stunning as a coupe

Other wills argue the 3.0si is almost as good (and is excellent) but having owned all types of Z4 I can assure you there worth the stretch  GLWTS

hi paza,
thanks for the advice, much appreciated. all sounds good, although i am not yet convinced that the sport is the one - would probably go for a smoother ride (smaller wheels, higher ride height and deeper section tyres) from preference, not least because the powertrain is the same between SE and sport. seems like there aren't a huge number around, so I might end up compromising on a few things anyway!
it's early days anyway, so we'll see how it goes.
