Thinking of buying a Z4....

Ok, I am thinking of buying a Z4 (obviously :D ) and was wandering what sort of things I should look out for in terms of issues or problems. I have a budget of around £6k, and have seen a variety of cars from 40k miles up to 100k miles on auto trader etc. Are there any concerns about higher mileage cars? What should I be looking out for?

As this car is for my wife, I do not want a powerful beast thats going to force her tits under her arms when pushing the fast pedal, so the 2.2 should be sufficient.
 
Dont do it mate, youll never get your dinner cooked or the house work done...she will always be out, just nipping to the nearest open supermarket that just happens to be 50-60 miles away.......
 
No concerns over mileage provided the service history has been adhered to. Examples with over 100k are becoming more common.

The M54 engines (which cover the 2.2) are fairly bullet proof. There are lots of guides on here (including a buyers guide) which cover the basics. Have a quick search and you'll find it. I would but on condition rather than mileage or age. Plus, take your time and find out what optional extras you want and need e.g. cruise control, leather, cup holders etc. Don't buy the first one you go to see, although it will be tempting!

Fookin doesnt happen anyway, I cook most of the time. :rofl:

I have however told her she needs to be "extra nice" to me for me to buy her a Z4 :wink: :thumbsup: . We were looking at Z3's and hoping to get her a REALLY good one that we could keep to be a classic. But she prefers the more modern Z4. We have until March (when her fiesta goes back to the lease company) but would rather buy when its wet and miserable so can see any signs of obvious leaking (is this a problem?) and also because the prices seem to be lower. Will check out the other forum sections as suggested. :driving:
 
Just bought one over Christmas. I tried several but went for the 2.2 in silver it came with 4 new run flats on 18s which themselves had just been refurbished and looked like new.
I paid £6500 for 04 plate with 63000 on the clock with loads of extras and a 12 month warranty.

Plenty of info on this forum for you, I got some great advice when I was searching for my Z4. I have never heard of any leaks on the Z4 so thats not a worry. Have you thought about the 2.0 ltr? I personally love mine :thumbsup:
 
Are cracked manifolds easy to spot when looking at a used car? What are the tell tale signs? And is it expensive repair ? Thanks guys for answering these noob questions :) I appreciate it

You should be able to hear if the manifold is cracked.

I think it's £600 to replace maybe cheaper from a good indy.

BMW did mine under warranty and the service guy said the replacement was a redesigned part.

That's good to know. So if a car I buy has all the history a replacement manifold should show up. Thanks again guys .
I'm going looking at 3 today!
