Being self employed I know I plan for it and it has to be done but it still sticks in the throat!

Who else has just paid their SA?

About to for the first time. It is horrible seeing what you actually give away, opposed to receiving the left overs. S***!!!

The bigger the tax bill the better you are doing. Personally I want a bigger tax bill every year. That being said this year's number is scary.

Yes there's a double whammy somewhere isn't there. My accountant managed to save me some odds and ends that I wouldn't have thought of but I'm not looking forward to that one. I have a feeling the big first payment either comes July or next Jan, nooo! My student loan is a killer too, again all in one annual lump.

Me, but I was only £200 out on my own calcs when I submitted it, and then received a £400 rebate from HMRC 2 weeks later.

Not SE, but SA because of vehicles. Got an £800 cheque through and a tax code that begins with "12" :)
Althought I realise this is just me getting back my money. :|

If you are getting a cheque from the tax man it is because you have overpaid. A tax rebate isn't necessarily a good thing!

Why are you all paying early? Not due until next week.

And yes, the payment on account is really p*ssing me off, why do you have to do that as you are always paying a year ahead before you have even earned it.

True but you still get some cash flow advantage compared to PAYE.
