Thieving b*stards

The Spanish that is ... Just declared war on them :D

Am in Barcelona for a few days, and on the first day my wallet got stolen. Fortunately, I only use the wallet for coin change and have the notes elsewhere, but it did annoy me rather a lot. No idea how they got through the button etc, but anyway it has gone. No point reporting it to the police, and insurance excess is too great to be able to claim.

So ... I am the typical Dutch tourist now as I don't tip anymore

They should have known, don't mess with me 8)

Another point - had not remembered that the no smoking ban does not exist here, which makes the list of eating places a bit limited. Underground great with the air conditioning in the trains though. At least keeps the thieves cool I suppose.

Sorry to hear that  If you wanted to be really PC you could blame the Catalonians! I can only dream that one day the sweat box that is the central line will have air con. Boris can't justify the cost though.... :x

was that on the ramblers pick pockets are rife around there? :x

x2 been there loads of times and every time somebody from the ship got robed

I am now walking behind my son who has deliberately something sticking out of his back pocket. Just need to get the chance now to plaster one of them all over the wall ...

Not on the Ramblers by the way, in the underground itself. I had it when going in, did not have it coming back out.

Admire your spirit but if you do get hold of one of them its going to spoil your trip a whole lot more than a small loss of some coins and a bit of hassle with Bank cards. Worst case is you end up spending some time in a little room with some spanish police.

True, but this is Spain and not the UK. So perhaps the PC brigade is not that active here :D

To see a girl in tears earlier again after the handbag was stolen is so, so nasty. The police was there, yes - but I guess I would have hoped they were a bit more active in dealing with the problem - not with the aftermath.

I am surprised the Spanish are not more active in tackling the issue though which is the worst I have ever experienced in any country.

Fortunately, no bank cars stolen either as I dont keep those in my wallet.

sounds alot like Prince Georges County Maryland here on this side of the pond

Witnessed two more incidents yesterday. This is really the worst place I have ever come across for this sort of thing. The Spanish should be ashamed.

Some years back in Prince Georges County I had a spare tire stolen out of my trunk/boot in a hotel parking garage. On another occasion at the same hotel someone broke into my room at 2 AM in the morning. I woke up as they were forcing the door and just as it opened I turned on a light and hollered, "WHAT THE FU!!" and they ran off. Last time I stayed at that hotel which was Ramada.

Some while back, I was in a Parisien cafe when 3 Roma types walked in and put a map onto a table occupied by 2 ladies who had their cell phones on the table top. Knowing the old trick of asking for directions whilst thieving from under the map.....I leaped out of my chair and gave 1 of them a mighty kick up the arse and cuffed another round the back of the head......shouting in my best RSM bellow "F**king out, F***********************ckkkkkkking Ouuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuut"! They were so shocked, totally unexpected to them. They ran as fast as they could. "Monsieur Ros'Biff" was offered coffee and cognac....politely accepted.

Funny enough, I was warned about Naples being a den of thieves and had no probs at all.
