The Zed One Year On ........

Hello Folks,

Have been continuing to lurk on here for sometime since getting my 2005 2.5 exactly one year ago. So I thought I would do a short write up on my first year of Z Ownership and where I plan on going from here, your thoughts would be most welcome!

I think I have been very lucky so far with this car it has 32K on the clock, is an '05 and has a FBMWSH from Menzies BMW Stirling. Car came with comprehensive receipts and in the 6 months before I bought it had: a new roof motor, new rear springs and new disc / pads / RFT's all round from the BMW dealer.

It's a great car, only issues I have had was a rattle that was traced to a damage OSF shock, replaced and all cured and a 'check engine' light as a result of the torn rubber hose between the air box and engine. Passed it's MOT last week with no issues.

I agree the Z4 has it's issues but for me the looks, the image and that sweet, sweet engine far make up for the well known issues.

Going forward my goal is to improve the ride, I have had a few roadsters now and I am used to rough and rattling rides. So here is my plan - ditch the RFT's and replace with top quality rubber and carry out a front suspension refresh similar to CJ10Jeeper. My MOT picked up movement in the front ARB bush.

My question is other than the front suspension arms what bushes should I replace? Do the bushes come as part of the suspension arms or do I have to buy those separately? An exploded diagram of the front suspension would be ideal if anyone has one?

So if I: replace the RFT's, refresh the front suspension + bushes and get a full alignment done I should get an improved ride with hopefully a 'tighter' feeling front the front suspension?

Final question ....

About to move in with the GF in central Edinburgh, currently I have a house with a garage where the Zed is tucked up every night. It's a nice secure private car but ... it is open to the elements. I am thinking of a hard top and re-spraying in my colour. Anyone sprayed a hardtop for the Z4? Any advice appreciated.

Hopefully these changes will get the car just the way I want it, then I plan to come along to some of he Scottish / North meets!

:D
