the thing about Upgrades

The first thing I noticed about my 2.0 lt sport was the tiny front brake discs ...... they worked well enough but looked a bit girly, so
off I went sourcing bigger, fancier brakes......
and there were one or two other things that caught my attention ...... until I had about a 4 grand wish list ....... :D

but instead ........... I just gave the bloke in the shop the 4 grand and my car and he gave me an M series in return....

Now there has to be a moral in that story somewhere ....... :) :)
 
Unfortunately I tend to by the top-spec model and then have to modify it myself as there is no step up.

The Z4M is the first car where I've decided to keep it more-or-less original.

Although did spend £15k on a Corrado VR6, and then another £15k on mods (330mm AP brakes, coilovers, BBS split-rims, glass out respray, cams, head, intake, etc.)

Although each car I've bought has had less & less spent on it in mods - although sometimes a lot more in maintenance (my e34 M5s, for example).
 
Im thinking about this to OP.

Over the last few days have been thinking about different aesthetic mods and performance mods for my Z4 Coupe but, Having jut seen the White Z4M Coupe on Piston Heads (now sold), I would love to just simply upgrade via half a dozen grand and get a car like that!

I was on the Alberta BMW forum and all the guys were modding their cars, trying to get up to the level of an M3, "lightbulb" !!! I had an M3 so no mods required :D Of course a person could mod an M but unless you are a sponsored racer...why?

I did mod my E89 to get an extra 80hp or so but that was 'cause there 'aint an M series E89..... :thumbsup:

My 1st V6 was a Corrado VR6, awesome car :) :thumbsup:

I went from 1.0L Metro, to 1.3L Polo, to e34 520i, to 1.3L Polo G40, to Corrado VR6 (which I kept for about 5 years), to an e34 M5, to a Jax XJ6 (whilst looking for my next M5), to another e34 M5, to the Z4MC.

Still miss the G40, VR6 and M5s though.

My neighbour had a Corrado Storm with a V6, think it was a limited edition and not hot on my VAG cars but it was lovely.

It was a limited edition, but basically just had different wheels, climate control and a 'Storm' badge over the standard VR6.

It was 15 years ago so may be wrong but it had special paint if I recall in dark blue
 
I like BMW Performance Brake, but it is only available for 1/3 series.

Brembo and AP brake will be nice.
 
In general modding for performance is a mugs game. Take the same amount of money and buy the next model up. That likely comes with whole host of extras to support it eg an ///M has a more powerful engine and a drivetrain and brakes to match it over say a 3.0

There are exceptions like living in a country where taxation makes a higher performance out of reach, but adding a supercharger makes it sensible. Other reasons like insurance costs for some make only a certain model realistic, but can be modded reasonably, etc. etc.

I mod for the project challenge and creating something different and probably waste money doing it, but I'm happy with what I create.

They were offered in 'limited edition' Green (can't remember the exact name) or Mystic Blue IIRC.

Mine was Dark Burgundy Pearl.
