On a side note, the quality of pictures really seems to degrade after an upload. Crisp and sharp even when zoomed in on my phone or laptop, but pretty jagged when uploaded using the attachment feature. Any way to improve that?

I think manually decreasing the resolution to where the resolution is less than or equal to the forum image maximum would help (I think the max is under the photo contest rules). This should prevent the site from automatically scaling the image.

Same applies to Facebook.
If you reduce the image resolution prior to upload, then the site doesn't compress it. And it'll retain sharpness.
I reduce my images to 1600 on the longest side and they always seem to look fine to me.

Thanks guys, just adjusted the width to 1600 and reuploaded. Looks somewhat better at least

Now that it's getting darker earlier, I'm thinking I might try for some milky way photos with the car in the foreground. Downside is, it's bloomin' cold out at that time of night!

Uploading it will always result in compression but at least all the entries are the same, which is why we don’t allow linking to third party sites in the comp.

You could post it in the gallery as a separate thread, linked from wherever, and we could see it in its full glory
