The New Z4........is it just me? (UPDATED)

I saw one in person, sat in it, own a 2006 M roadster, and in my opinion, the new car is car superior in looks, fit and finish. I haven't driven one yet, but the reviews I have read would lead me to believe it will meet my needs in that department too.

like most people I will reserve judgement until I see it in the flesh, but when I first saw the detailed the pictures the wife said to me 'you don't like it do you' without me saying anything.

It's not all bad though I do quite the interior , it's just the exterior is nothing special.

It's really starting to appeal to me, especially the new pics with 19" alloys :sweetheart:

But then I have an SLK, and this is probably right up my street. An SLK made by BMW :)

I am not surprised you like it.

BMW have definitely set it's sights on the SLK market!

I would have agree'd. I've not been exactly blown away by the exterior styling but then i saw it in grey and it looks so much better! I'd now consider one (... second hand tho as way too much for me new...)
see what i mean below...looks awsome???
although now i look at it closely, it could be slightly edited?

if so I still think it looks great in grey:

I managed to find a Z4 tucked away in a dealers parking lot the other day, they were prepping it for the release date.

Gotta say it looks prettier. The front and back end looks meaner.
The slightly bigger ass looks quite good in my opinion, more like a muscle car, than the previous z4 butt. Interior looks more refined ..etc. . rest would probably be repeating what others have said, but yes IMHO this car is more refined and better looking. And I loved the previous Z4, even though some parts were a mixed bag,

Will have to wait for the test drive to judge on all the other characteristics.

Think that is a late (and very accurate) magazine image, i.e. just before it was unveiled. The real one doesn't have indicators in the wing mirrors - and its lower than the real one too - but good enough to make a judgement.

I wanted a sports car, not a GT/sports car hybrid, and I wanted a nice boldly styled car, not an 'appeal to everyone' car.

Z4 it was, by miles.

The new one doesn't appeal to me at all unfortunately :(

I'd be after a contemporary Boxster S instead if I were buying a car at that price range :)

Totally agree. The new Z4 just blends in too much, yet another similar looking car with no design features to really make it stand out.

Chris Bangle should be applauded for his work in styling our Z4s :)

You've hit the nail on the head.

BMW want to sell more cars and are therefore not designing something that is a required taste, as I believe the previous Z4 was. The more people you aim your car at the more sales you'll get... at least in theory. Personally, I think the new Z4 looks awesome and is exactly what I'm after.

If I wanted a true sports car I'd go for a Porsche (Boxster or Cayman) or more than likely a Lotus Exige but certainly not a Z4 (new or old).
