the new cayman/boxster GT4

guys I've been here before, with the bpxster spyder, i spent a lot of time around that car and KICK myself for not having one, they are STILL perfect to my eyes, Now with the new GT4 model coming i see my chance once again to jump into something i can afford , have something VERY special, and probably the nearest thing to a GT3 in terms of performance, I'm curiously awaiting details but this could be the car i finally let me z4m go for..... its going to be very very very special, is anyone else considering the same?

The Porker brand is something i know well and they treat me very well from my current dealings with them, i LOVE the interiors and general quality of the new models, am i dreaming for a 60k price tag but could stretch alittle further, I've spoken to my guy at sutton OPC while my car was in for a service and he says that they are expecting news very soon, he mentioned a possible 3.8 gt3 based block/motor :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o
 
Love the Spyder (in white) and they have hardly depreciated at all.

Would be £40k well spent in my mind
 
Would love one, but hoping to buy a house this year, so won't be able to.

Big question though is will it be PDK or Manual?

i can't forgive myself for no buying one, OPC invited me to drive that and the cayman R at silverstone when they were new, i was so close but int he end stayed with the z4m which is awesome but I've had to make it awesome, the spyder was awesome out the box, what a car and as you say has barely lost a penny.....

if i was to make the switch id go to a PDK now, if I'm loosing my old school z4m i want to go right into the current age and go all the way, PDK at curbourough would save me some time inbetween the figure 8 too :rofl:

Internet rumours suggest media blackout lifted early feb with a full launch at Geneva - pricing could be interesting 62 to 65 K would be my guess looking at GTS prices , and the difference in pricing between GTS and GT3 991 prices .

Agree with you on this! Porsche Boxster GTS or the R (if they make it) is the only car I can get excited about on the market and that includes the new GT3 r anything Italian. Problem with Porsche's are they're so specification specific, but the GTS helps with that, would just need to add PTV, Sports Suspension and Bucket Seats :driving:

Spyder is stunning, but couldn't be bothered with the tent roof, even as a weekend car.

Can't see it being less that £75k...probably over £80k when specced properly. Also, unless you get that money down early then you'll struggle here....I couldn't get anyone to take a deposit on the GT3.
 
I'd have one in a heartbeat but even a 60k sterling price tag will probably tanslate to $200 + here on the road :headbang:
 
Love it B but I couldn't live with that roof. It's a bit marmite. Be different if it could be permanently left off but living in England that's not going to happen.
 
The allure of the P car is strong for sure.
I agree that the Spyder is a very special car and the idea of a new GT4 sounds very interesting.
For your purposes, don't settle for anything less than "special" if you make the move to a P car. I think the Spyder is defiantly worthy :).
You have built such an awesome Z4M that you may find you really miss it even after taking ownership of a "better" car.

Very interesting comments all around and i tend agree with the general view, But chris you nailed it, not only will the car have to be a total beast but its going to rEALLY have its work cut out tempting me away from my z4 which was absolutely slaying my class last year at the sprint track and hitting the supercar class hard, their was a 997 gt3 their and he could NOT beat my time, we battled all day ( both taking tiny pieces of time away with every run) was so proud of the little z4m on its nankang semi slicks !! lmao!!! Whatever i say my little z4 is looking, feeling and performing in a different league to its price point, i absolutely adore it.

but the idea of a GT4 cayman, with a 3.8L gt3 block just is hurting me, i can also say i will never mod again like i did with the z4m, it was an itch i wanted to scratch and I'm pleased to say I've done it, i wouldn't do it again! i like the idea of a car coming from the factory with all the bits i need so all I'm doing is changing geo/setup for my kicks!

I think the GT4 will be around £80k with a reasonable spec. It's a lot more of an upgrade over the GTS than the R was over the old Cayman S. If the rumours and spy photos are correct it really is a proper GT and the Boxster equivalent will be a lot less breathed on.

I can't see the GT4 having much less than 400hp and you don't get that much horsepower cheaply in a Porsche. It sounds like it's going to occupy the price point of the old 997 GT3's.
