The ///MR looking much better after a good polish!

I spent many hours giving the car a wash, clay bar, polish and wax. It isn't perfect, not least because I didn't have anything for the tyres, but it is looking much better than it was. The DAS-6 Pro really helps!

Below is an image of the finished product:

And a gif of before and after the polish (the link should open in a new tab/window):

Looks lovely. What polish did you use?

Thanks! Sonus SFX-2 polish.

More details for those interested:

I did one polish over the whole car (I didn't have time for multiple passes) and given it hadn't been done for ages (as the 'before' part of the gif shows) I used a 6" Sonus SFX-1 foam pad with Sonus SFX-2 polish. In retrospect, I probably should have used the SFX-2 pad, to match the polish. But it came out well.

I then waxed using Dojo Juice Purple Haze Pro Edition with the Sonus SFX-4 pad.

Only my second attempt with the DAS-6, so still learning...

i have spent hours watching Andy from White Details....... i am planning to do a 2 day stint on the car when the weather gets a bit better...

Priced up a few bits and going for 5 litre options on most of the detailing stuff, so looking close to £400 spending but it will last me a while.

Bloody hell, you are making me feel guilty, badly need to do mine, just finding the time,, and the weather

Me too.

Unfortunately my Zed is at the back of the queue after the Discovery and the Mini, all of which are metallic black.

The Discovery probably has more acreage of metal than the Mini and the Zed combined. More importantly the Discovery is deemed (by Mrs R) to be Mrs R's car, and she has pointed out that in just over a year of ownership it has only been properly detailed once - hence why the Discovery is at the front of the queue!

I keep trying to pluck up the courage to use a polishing machine, but always end up doing it manually - which is hard work!

That looks super-shiny OP - I can't help thinking Z4s look great in blue for some reason! :)

Thank you RustyZ4 and RickRob!

RickRob - I would highly recommend getting a dual action polisher. Especially given the acreage you have to cover across your garage

They do a fantastic job, save a significant amount of effort, and yet I still find it a very engaging and rewarding process (you are not overly 'alienated' from the work). Also, there is little risk of damaging your paint vs. something like a rotary polisher.

Thanks. And thanks paddy wright.

I agree about the blue. Certainly my favourite. That said, I think there are some other great colours as well. I like the silver and particularly like the Sepang Bronze.

Yes, Sepang Bronze is lovely - and I do like Imola Red. Shame they are M only colours! :(

Thank you for the information.
I keep looking at getting a dual action polisher but always end up being put off by the myriad of pads, polishes and compounds which results in me going back to microfibre/foam applicator pads and microfibre polishing cloths!

Understandable. There is a lot out there. Three things that may help:

1) This website: http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/ especially this bit: http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/index.php?_a=viewDoc&docId=5 and this guide: http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/generalImg/guide.gif

2) In reference the that last link (the guide). If this is too much/too many steps (it was for me) you could break it down into just doing the following:
- Wash
- Polish (restore or enhance depending on the state of the car - this was my SFX-1 pad with SFX-2 polish)
- Wax (this was my SFX-4 pad and wax)

3) It seems to be a well developed market with some solid brands, so it is hard to go wrong if you get something that has good reviews. I went with Sonus as they seemed well established. Then the SFX-1 is the harshest pad/polish, and SFX-4 is the softest, with others in the middle.

Thanks so much for taking the time to help with this.
I think I just need to take the plunge.
