On BBC1 now.
I do understand that it's not just a job, it's a community and a way of life, but I suspect most of those guys are glad that they can walk away (rather than die on the job).
Lots of blame being apportioned to David Cameron, but no mention of the Climate Change Act introduced by Ed Milliband.
Still it is the BBC.

Bought lots of memories back as I was a miner, not the same pit and not as long as some on the programme but still a miner.
If it comes out on DVD I'll purchase for memories.
 
As one of the guys said, he would always be a miner, it was ingrained in his soul (and his lungs). You could see what a tight bond those guys had, it wasn't a job, it was a way of life.
I wouldn't want to do that job but it seems to me that it's greener to dig coal out of the ground and use it as fuel than to cut down trees in the US, convert them to pellets, ship them to the UK and burn them to generate electricity.
Of the guys they followed, most found another job pretty quickly.
