"The King of Rims" refurb project

Well, I finally managed to get my Zed across the border from Victoria a few weeks ago, but refurbishing these goddamn rims has been a nightmare!

Note to oneself: Never ever again buy rims sprayed by a spotty faced youth (or anyone else for that matter)

SO here's what they looked like when I picked them up:

..and now- after putting the final clearcoat on (and the pic does not do justice to the 2-pack gloss clearcoat - which looks pretty damn nice I must say!). I now have tolet the coating cure for a week and then hopefully they can finally go on the Zed!:

Doing wheels by hand is a time consuming process, with seemingly exponential effort as the spoke number and complexity increases. You should be proud that you stayed the course, I gave up on a set of bbs after finishing just two and my old 224M wheels are languishing in the basement in various states of disrepair!

It’s satisfying, but I tend to think it’s a bit of a waste of time when you can get wheels done extremely well for £2-300. I don’t mean that as a criticism, but just a personal realisation after spending days sanding and losing my fingerprints!

Looks like you’ve done a nice job though, and those wheels look great on a Z4  Did you use a gun or did you get a 2 part aerosol?

Wow those look absolutely gorgeous! Really looking forward to the fitted pictures

Let me just say this is the first and last time I will ever do this - will be paying a pro next time (if there ever is a next time)

However, I did want these 2 tone rather than all silver (inside barrel gun metal grey so it doesnt show the dirt) - which would have cost more

More of a relief than satisfaction at the mo. Maybe that will change when they're on the zed...

Well, after all the pain of sanding and painting these buggers, one of them then turned out to be buckled!

That's a right PITA after you had spent so much time getting such a great finish!

MV2s do seem to be prone to damage - my nephew had one crack on his E46, and that wasn't on run-flats. I think other people on here have had issues with them too.

Some refurb places say they can straighten them though so hopefully you don't end up trying to find a single wheel.
