Those with the extended storage package might scoff at my poverty spec Z.

I have been searching for the drivers dashboard storage in Coral Red for years. Last week, one finally came up for sale.

Does anyone have advice for fitting this part?

I believe I need to remove the head unit & headlight control and kick panel.
(Thanks to AnubisZed for the idrive retrofit video where you remove this piece)

Do I need to disconnect the battery or anything else?

I'll pour out two drops of oil in respect of the Z which died to make this part available. Let's all take a moment.

Any advice is appreciated. :D

Since the below photo was taken, I have cleaned it up with some Surfex HD and a brush, washed down and dried out. It’s all ready!

As far as I remember, there's no need to touch the HU. There's also no need to disconnect the battery.

I have this drivers storage in my 5 series and though not big I do find it quite useful so wouldn’t mind doing as you have done in the Z4. How did you manage to find it, what’s the best description to put into Google or eBay?

Yeah, it’s dead space in the Z, so seems like a worthwhile upgrade to me.

I was using a spread of search terms, but the successful one was: Drivers Storage Z4 E89, or Lower Dashboard Trim Z4 E89

If you have a black interior, you are in luck:

Door side trim pulls off.
Light switch panel - 1 x screw behind side panel, then pulls off, disconnect switch plug.
Remove trim around headunit.
Remove kick panel (3 x screws).
Remove footwell speaker panel side trim - 1 x screw for bonnet pull and 1 x screw behind that. If you have rugs, remove that for ease of removing panel.

Old red leather trim panel - Remove the screws that are under the headunit trim panel.

Install new trim and reversal of all of the diss-assembly

Enjoy. I did this last year when I finally found one of these (same colour as well). I use mine for my sunglasses, but I've also thought about mounting the BMW rechargeable torch in there somehow (was never available for the E89).

Thanks for this! Now all I need is a warm day and some free time!!

There is a newer version of the torch, fits in the arm rest.
