The best way to polish headlights, please?

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/376000710445

The 3M kit with a drill has done me well on a couple of cars (yet to do my E86, but it's on the list of tasks). Just make sure to protect the headlights against UV after polishing!

Hi

Used 3M kit with a drill on a disco 2 with great results.

Slow and steady is key, don’t push hard and don’t do when it is really hot outside (uk 😂)

Mask area very well (or remove), in case any slips.

Don’t know about Z4

Cheers

It really depends on what state they are in. Is there surface contaminants, is it yellowing badly?

A simple first step is to polish with a headlight polish, it might not really get that shine up though. There is the option to wet sand which is what I did on my old E85 which brings up a much better finish than any polishing kit, you got to be brave though as it will look dull at first and you think youve messed it up but a polish after and it comes up like new.

I would definitely invest in a lacquer UV protection last stage, you can buy wipes/fluid online, make sure you apply at the end and leave to dry for 24 hours, this will help ensure the longevity of your work. If you dont the yellowing etc. will be all over the headlight in a matter of months.

Don't you will ruin them.
Give a go but be warned, they seem to have possibly a glass coating.
Not like as far as my experience like say Porsche headlights you see being polished.
My car the coating started grazing like it had be scratched by a cat.
The replacement lens gone same way one side, i have another lens to fit.
Z4 lights feel like acrylic, usually polycarbonate that dulls, like bus shelters.
