The age old brake question -mini upgrade

I know this is covered most weeks but can't seem to find a definitive answer. I need to replace 2 rear pads and a front disk so thought this was a good a time as any for a small brake upgrade. Now I only drive on the road and only have a 3.0si so no need for a bbk.

I have been looking at the mtec kits which are drilled and grooved discs and mintec pads for £190 all round but after reading the odd poor review here and there I am not too sure. What other options are there around? I would be looking to spend £500 fully fitted so would have about 300-350 to spend which I know isn't much.

Will also be changing my brake fluid to something better as this will need to be done at the next service anyway and was also looking into braided brake lines as well. Do you think braided brake lines are needed or not as im not going for the 'whole hog' with the change?

Jonny are you handy with spanners? It's not a hard job to do, and it'll boost your budget for parts!

That said a set of Mintex 1144 pads and some OEM spec mintex discs would be a good 'fast road' set up, and one I've run with a few of my previous cars. The 1144 compound is a very good compromise because you won't have the issue of getting the pads up to operating temperature as with more aggressive pads, and they work very well when driving at the more 'spirited' end of the spectrum.

Braided lines in my experience are a good upgrade as it improves pedal feel a little. Its probably only really worth it if you're needing to change the lines as the standard ones are perishing, but if you've got spare in the budget then go for it!

Mintex all round is not a bad shout. May look into that. Have been researching again today and if I stretch the budget then can get ebc turbo grooved discs and ebc yellow pads. Anyone any experience with these?
