Hello lovely forum 
Not been around for ages as work/life been so busy! But I had a lot of warm welcomes & real help from here, so thought I'd share an update on our first 6 months (probably long, sorry!).
So the wonderful BatCar was collected from forum member Stug in mid March. We headed off to the Brecon Beacons to get to know each other, that was a glorious weekend and gave me a good idea of the car's capabilities. Happy days.
Back home, BC is my daily driver so got plenty of use. There was definitely something amiss - under full throttle she would start to start to stutter, and the EML would come on. Two different OBDs showed no faults, so we carried on, but this did hamper my enjoyment (not using full power = bad :lol: ). Other than that BC was faultless, and I really enjoyed getting to know the handling etc.
The 19" wheels were ruining the ride for me, excessive tramlining, rock hard and just not how I thought it should feel. I got hold of a nice set of 18' MV2s (after a forum member spent a whole day letting me try his wheels - thank you buddy
) which I think look great. That sorted, we booked a week in Derbyshire for some more thrills. This is on Snake Pass:
Back home, around June, disaster:
Car had just peed coolant out over the motorway and gone into massive overheat. OH tried a simple bleed as it looked at first to be an airlock, but after it happened a second time, we replaced the water pump, sorted!
Recently, the car has been slightly knocking at idle ad the 'full power misfire' got worse. We got hold of a different OBD and voila, ignition coils! I'd done some searching and this very forum had thrown that up as a very likely cause, so was glad it was all confirmed. One full set of nice new coils later and
The difference is night and day. The car pulls right through the gears, across the rev range. It no longer feels sluggish pulling away, I was thinking the throttle response was a bit laggy but no, now it is perfect and it's is the car it should have been. I had a rather long drive to celebrate tonight and it was simply amazing! One of my previous cars was a 996, but BatCar really blows it out of the water in terms of sheer enjoyment, and know I can get to know her all over again.
Up next is taking out the clutch delay valve which is really annoying, booking another performance driving course (used Ride Drive before who are excellent) and a view to doing a track day or two if I have time while the weather holds. Oh, and finding a set of winters so I don't have to stop driving.
If you've finally made it to the end of this ramble, the real point is just to say thank you. I wanted to share the journey so far as really, thanks to this forum I have:
- Found and bought my excellent and beloved BatCar
- Been shown immense kindness and hospitality from a member who went out of his way to help (the wheels)
- Got the best driving roads info for my trips to Wales and Derbyshire
- Got loads of advice, even just searching rather than posting my problem
- Got a great insurance deal
- Enjoyed lots of other stories/pictures/info etc
- Become ever more OCD about cleaning and polishing :lol:
So, I'll keep posting when I can and hope I get a chance to help someone else here in the future by way of carrying on the good karma.
