Morning All.

Well I had my car valeted last week by a mobile service and had some paint correction done. I was really chuffed and left the guy a good tip. He drove off first in his van followed by me only to discover he had somehow managed to take a big chip out of the drivers wing mirror glass which subsequently split right down the middle as soon as I started driving. Cant believe i didn't notice it as I was looking around the car but might explain his rather swift exit! Pretty disappointed by a complete lack of honesty as the guy had done such a good job, i probably wouldn't have minded and just sucked it up. Anyway it is what is it. I do however need to replace it. Although as a rule i try my best to stick to OEM parts £90 from a Dealer is a little steep! Obviously there are a stack on ebay but not too keen. Has anyone any recommendations on a good after market one?

Ive absolutely no idea how he did it. A friend and myself stood there for 20mins to try and figure out exactly that??!! Im assuming it happened whilst using the machine polisher but i really dont know.

I agree i would have loved to do it myself. Unfortunatly i just dont have the time. Im only back in the UK for a week at a course and back to Sea tomorrow where the zed will then go into a garage all tucked up under a cover until im next back probably at the end of summer and i just wanted it to look nice for when i return!

Could it have been already there? Stone chip damage from driving along the road or chipped from flying debris while parked?

I was thinking the same -but he says he made a very swift exit,still doesnt mean it was him tho.
 
Surely why don't you just ask him? the guy might fess up, I'm sure he must be insured for any accidents which can happen. I would certainly chase him up.

It just confirms to be apart from routine servicing to do these jobs yourself, saves all the heartache and if you damage the car you only have yourself to blame :)

They do when I give someone hell lol, its surprising if you try, the OP has nothing to lose except the cost of fixing it.

Who was the mobile valeter? If he does paint correction then I would hope he is more than your average valeter?
 
the mirror glass on ebay is fine for the job. i had to change both of mine and at 15 quid a side it was a lot cheaper than stealer prices.

Given how the wingmirror glass likes to take a dive towards the ground, maybe it just fell out whilst cleaning... and instead of fessing up he just put it back again...?

Pretty poor showing though!
 
I was about to say maybe it fell out when he was cleaning the mirror casing... And he put it back.. No realising it got damaged.
