Testing New Lens at Brands

Tested the new lens at Brands this weekend Sigma 120-400 on my Canon 450D.

Well there was no way i could hand hold this lens with my dodgy left arm so i bought a Monopod which i found restrictive at first so i ended up having the clamp loose that way the camera was free to move around as normal but still taking the weight did try some hand held pans but my left arm was not up to the job for long however the lens is great for a different sort of shot with the longer reach looking forward to the season ahead.

Few shots still need a lot more practice with this kit but am happy with first outing.

Some very nice shots there, you can even see the guys eyes behind the helmet visor.

I also use a monopod as I have an uncontrolable Parkinson's tremor in my left hand. I find it best to hold the mono in my right hand and use a remote trigger with my left hand, works really well. I doubt I could do pan shots though!

Photography is all I think about these days and have even asked to reduce my working week so I can go out and click away.

I have started to use some old legacy lenses (Canon FD's) with adapters on a Panasonic Lumix GF2. Most have the infinity mark on them and I find it easier to use them.......they are quite cheap, i.e a 50mm f1.4 cost £40 on ebay and I get great shallow depth of field shots with it. I also got a Tokina 28-85mm macro for 40 quid on ebay.

Aanyway, nice shots mate....well done.

Thanks mate  those lenses are so cheap :o was hard spending out on my new lens and monopod knowing that i could have spent the money on the Z new headlights :( but at the end of the day this camera is getting me out in the fresh air and i am at a race track nearly every weekend till end of November.

When I used to go to the odd Grand Prix with my old Nikon FE I had a kind of shoulder mount that was really comfortable and easy to hold and let you pan really steadily just by moving your upper body. never seen one since. You can get similar ones but this one had a really nice comfortable 'stock'.

You can get an adapter on ebay/amazon to fit an FD to an EOS. You might find a nice long prime lens which you can set to infinity?

That sounds nice will look into it but at the mo most likely rig up something along these lines for the mo.
