I had both of my cars TerraCleaned recently so I’ve done a little review of before / after & differences, for any one else thats considering getting it done.
E61 520d (130,000 miles)
Before - Lumpy tickover after cold morning start, cured by reving the engine up to about 1500-2000rpm then sits fine
Average about 40-42 mpg (gets reset every time I fill up, for the last year)
After – smooth tickover after cold morning start with out reving engine
Average about 41-43 mpg (measured over about 500 miles) EDIT: a month on from original post and I'm averaging 43-44 MPG over the last 3-4 fillups and 30-31 MPG when towing the race car behind.
No performance gain noticeable to me, but it’s a 520d!
Pleased with the results, the car does seem to sound smoother.
E36 328i (180,000 miles)
Tickover fine, bit rattley in general but does have a lot of miles on it!
Average mpg – don’t care or know!
Sounds a lot quieter on tickover no where near as rattley,
Can’t say on performance gain because fitted an M50 manifold aswell and I only drive it on track so mpg isn’t a care for this car!
As I had to tow the track car down to the garage, I witnessed the 328 being done, it must be a pretty potent cleaner they put in cuz it stinks whilst its being cleaned! The diesels more so apparently.
I had a chat with the guys whilst mine was being done, they best results they see are from cars that get ‘babied’ as in never revved up high usually from very mpg conscious drivers also cars that do short journeys. And obviously the higher milage cars as they tend to have a higher build up of carbon and stuff on the engine internals. Other usefull points if a car fails its MOT on emissions before going for new lambda probes / Cats / etc
A point also, for the 328, the fuel lines get blanked off and the fuel pump over pressurises and automatically shuts off, for reduced stress on feul pump the fuse for it was taken out instead.
Disclamer: TerraClean has sponsored my race team / car for this season in the BMW racing drivers club championship: BMW Kumho Championship. As part of the sponsorship I have written the above review on my HONEST experience and results from the TerraClean service.
My car being done, incase it isn't obvious I had it done at Scotlands Ash Garage which cover TerraCleaning for Oxford, Newbury & inbetween
