Has anyone fitted a temperature gauge to their M,because all we get is oil temp, why didnt BMW fit oil pressure and water temp gauges to make the cars feel a bit more special.

You could get the LeatherZ gauge kit but it is expensive...looks great though.

or you could order the Japanese exclusive stuff from 3d design.... impecable quality and raised and angled at the driver, they are designed to work with stack gauges and have a lovely interlocking bezel design, its porn and looks like it was always their!! This part replaces the whole ashtray assembly, its a complete unit and very nice quality.

Or, with an Intravee and the latest firmware with "extras" enabled, you get the coolant temp on the nav screen

Only works with the iPod (or whatever you plugged into the Intravee) selected though

I don't think its available any longer.
...I gave up waiting for a promised new batch that never happened.
In retrospect I'm glad that I waited for the 3D design kit ...looks fantastic.

Can't some genius hack the on board computer and give us coolant temp on the display instead of outdoor temp?

bet its doable!!! all the info is their in the computer.... theirs a coolant temp sensor on the rad as well.. so the car is logging it.
BTW coolant is accessible on the OBC via the secret menu!!

I would be interested to know more about this???

What do you want to know? If you have one just ask them for the latest beta firmware. It's pretty solid, I've had no problems at all

Come on you guys please someone come up with a HUD. :o
You mean like one of thesethat can show whatever gauge display you choose?

Pity it's not available any more.

I have also seen some home-made HUDs using an iPhone and appropriate software/sensors.

What are these secret menus then?

No where to put them without it over crowding. You don't need water temp, oil temp is more important.
Tell it to the man whose rad is steaming

But the oil temp would go up as well wouldnt it, if the engine was getting hot.

Also it does have warning lights. My previous car had a water temp on the dash and it doesnt concern me not having it. I would rather have oil temp! (And pressure ideally)

If you have one and don't need a permanent readout, the Intravee is capable of showing the coolant temperature. The car had been resting for a bit in the picture, it does give an accurate reading. I have only wanted to check it when in a traffic jam and saw the bonnet steaming away (at the time I didn't realise it was normal).

If they ever sort it so these can be fitted with a cd changer I'd have one. I just don't want to loose my changer.

You can add an Intravee switch to control multiple devices. Iirc you'd have to swap the BMW one for an Alpine one though.

What is it about the cd changer that makes you want to hang onto it? I'm struggling to think of anything that can't be ripped to a digital copy for an iPod. For the occasional time you want to play a disc, put it in the head unit...
