Temperamental ‘Easy Entry’

Hi everyone,

I recently coded easy entry onto my 2004 e85 using NCS expert. Easy entry is when you press ‘unlock’ twice, the drivers window drops, and then closes again when the door closes.

Since i coded it a few days ago, it has worked occasionally, but often when i double press unlock, it just unlocks normally.

Has anyone else had this issue, or have any ideas as to what could cause it?

Thanks in advance.

Yes, mine is temperamental (2007 E86). It also is glitchy on my 2006 R53 - that just sometimes randomly opens the window half way for the fun of it, even if the car is already unlocked!

They did seem to fix it to be much more reliable on the next generation of cars (think E92 era), so I just think of it as a 'best efforts' feature on the E86/R53, and never really looked into it on either.

You can always hold the unlock button down to drop the windows (if so coded), so there's always that back up if it doesn't work, and access is restricted. (I know - the point is that the feature should actually work!)

Interesting. Do you have any idea why it’s temperamental? I did wonder if it could be to do with the jamming protection as i’ve had issues with it bouncing back down since fitting a hard top as i need to lubricate the seals. but, if it’s playing up on your coupe and r53, maybe it’s unrelated. in hindsight i wish i had checked it out on my r53 before i sold it!

No, I'm not sure, sorry. I don't use it much as neither car is on the road (both bought as projects), so I usually just leave them unlocked behind my gate. I have noticed the few times I have needed to use it, it's pretty random.

I don't know if the jamming protection logic is active on the way down or not, so I guess it's just not invoking the 'comfort access' at all. (But I have nothing to support that theory!)

Okay no worries. I appreciate the insight anyway. I completely agree - it seems incredibly unlikely that the jamming protection would cause an issue being that it should only engage when the window ascends. Regardless, it seems worth a try; when i get a spare ten minutes, i’ll disable jamming protection for a couple of days and see if it makes a difference.
