I've been having cruise control issues pretty much since I got the car. They seem to be temperature sensitive. I first noticed it after I put a grease fitting on my steering column back in March. At first it would work randomly. I thought it worked better on cold temperatures, but probably because I would run the heat. It wouldn't work when I started the car, then 5 minutes later it would. Come spring, it stopped working almost entirely, until temperatures reached 70°F. As summer progressed, the operational temperature crept up to 75°F, then to 80°F, then to 85°F, and now lies at exactly 86°F. If it is less than 10°F below this temp, a solid smack on the bottom of the steering column allows me to engage cruise control, but the resume function will not work. I have made sure the connections are secure, and sprayed electronics cleaner into the cruise control stalk, but nothing has changed. What electronics are involved in initializing the cruise control? I know there is a clutch switch and a brake switch, is there anything else? How might I "hotwire" these switches to eliminate there input to see if they are bad? Any other advice?
