I don't disagree that they were taking advantage but I wonder whether the dealership has a legal obligation to cover the full cost. They offered a free meal as compensation and then refused to cover the cost of this. If she has the offer in writing she might be able to sue them for the full value. Either way, for the sake of a few hundred pounds I'm surprised they are prepared to risk bad publicity.
 
I suppose they could argue that a free meal is a free meal and doesnt include all the drinks that they consumed.
That would bring the bill down a fair bit.

Or the Dealer Principal could take them out for a few beers before stopping off at the kebab van on the way home :D
