Taking the 'Daily Drive' Post On A Step...

Hi all,

Following on from the 'Daily Drive' posting below, I was wondering what your thoughts are on a Z4 Coupe are as a daily car? (as opposed to using something else).

I am searching for one at the moment and it will be my main car for a reasonably short daily commute. Is it really suitable for this?

I know a lot of you lads have the Z's as second cars but I was wondering if they're really OK as daily cars.

All Z4's are capable of being used daily in all weathers, get some winter tyres though when there is snow around.

I use my Coupe every day. 5 days a week for the hum-drum commute in nose to tail traffic, and two days a week for FUN! The Coupe is very practical IMHO - it's one of the reasons why I chose a Zed. The bootspace is massive for a 2 seater (lets not forgot it's a Grand Tourer after all) and it will comfortably get 8 filled regular sized shopping bags in there, and even a large dog (our German Pointer is 30kgs). Although not together obviously! :)

The daily commute in traffic does push the MPG down somewhat, of course. I''m at 23 mpg at the moment (average) but I'm not complaining at all. Well worth it, and I got less out of my Impreza anyway. I rarely do a motorway journey in the Zed either, as I don't have the need to where I live. The back roads are much more fun

It's a great car and I use it for a short daily commute and wouldn't change it in any way. I live in the city so the auto box is perfect for this kind of commute. Just point and shoot! Only thing I'd say it requires is non rft's. The rft's ruin an otherwise conplete package. The difference has been unbelievable. Wish I'd done it much sooner. Go for it!

I bought mine for a daily drive, M4 into London 80 mile return trip every day. Got an auto so I don't have to sit there pumping the clutch. Had her just over a month and absolutely loving it. You don't see many Coupes around and she gets lots of attention.

Yep one of the things I notice though is that no matter how you drive the mpg stays the same, eco mode or flat out.

Yes would agree with this, get a cheapo set of winter 17s.

Thanks for the replies lads. Good to hear the Z4C makes for a good daily car. Just need to find one now! ;-)

I used my Coupé as a daily driver and I do around 400-430 miles per week. It's great and far better than my previous clio 197. Not only do I get better fuel economy, but the boot is just as big (negating fold down seats). If you drive it in town a lot yes the fuel economy would be pants (like any fast car) but on a decent run it's great :)

Best I've managed so far on a standard week is about 37mpg (over a full tank) and worst 34mpg.

:driving:

I've used my Coupe daily for the last two and a half years and have no complaints at all! The fuel economy isn't that bad, it's rather comfy, and you can do the weekly shop in it and everything!

Depends what you do daily really. If you're single, or a couple, and live on your own (i.e. no family), don't do a lot of outdoor activies like mountain climbing, hiking, cycling, and don't purchase large quantities of stuff at a time, do not purchase large items (i.e. furniture), and do not plan on driving more than 1 other person around at a time then... its a great daily driver (the coupe).

We have a roadster and it's fine for the two of us + groceries. But if we know we may have to drive a friend / family member somewhere, will need to pick up large items, or going on a long drive---we take the 3 series.
