Hi

I've got a nearly new 3" mangowalk stubby that I would like to swap for a 5".

I'm sure the 3" will be fine for you city types but out here in rural Herefordshire the 3" just cant cope with the FM signal.

Alternatively I'd sell for £8 and I'll reorder a new 5".

Anyone interested?

The external aerial/antenna doesn't provide the FM signal, so a bigger one won't help.

The external aerial/antenna does LW/MW and the phone.

I've got a Mangowalk 7" S2000 type one you can have to try - although it has a smaller base so looks odd if fitted permanently.

somewhere someone (probably cj...) found some info that some cars do use the external aerial for FM in areas of low signal... certainly been discussed before :D Ill take a quick look and see if I can find it...

Yep - you're right gannet. Too much time on my hands caused me to research it once and discovered that while the FM aerial is across the rear bumper cover the Z4 uses aerial diversity on certain audio units that means that under certain circumstances it switches to the wing mounted aerial for FM.

Needs a radio engineer to fully explain what it's all about and why, but bottom line is that for most of us the stubby is fine, but some for some of the time suffer on FM with a stubby.

I was expecting this to come up as I've seen it discussed on other threads. All I can say is that the radio works fine in FM with the old aerial and doesn't with the new one :headbang:

Thanks for the offer of the 7" but I'd rather refit the oem one than fit that to my car.

Yes, it is fugly - that's why it's the 3" one on the car.
