Swap black M seats to red?

Just dipping my toes in the water to see if anything nibbles.

How likely and cost effective would it be to try and get some red M seats in place of my black?

Had an S2000 for many years in silver and red-black, wondering about a colour change with the Z.

Like hens teeth and command a premium. Have you got M Sport or standard sport seats at present.
 
M sport seats as standard. Just sent an email to a car upholstery place I've used before for a quote.

I'd love the same in my grey roadster.

Piano black with black leather and black interior makes it quite dark indeed.

I'd be interested to hear what they come back with.
 
You can re-dye black leather to any colour you want with very good results. Its a labor intense process but is definitely do-able.

Have a read through this where a guy goes from black to saddle brown. Would be a much cheaper option than going to a re-trimmer!

You might want to contact this ebay seller:

They're not geniune OEM covers (that would cost about 2000gbp or so...), so I don't know how good they fit.
And on ebay they only have an auction for beige and black, but on their site they do have them in red:

(the strange thing is that for a 2006 model they put up a picture for an e89, but the covers sure look like m seats)
They might want to put them on ebay too for the same price (I think red leather would be on less demand than black or beige...).
I don't know what they cost on their normal website; the ebay auctions they do as 'outlet'.

I also don't know if they're seat covers for 'm-seats' or m-performance seats (there is a difference) and I also don't know if they fit on each others frames/foam inserts.
They are located in both bristol and livingstone, so that's not so far for you. they might do fitment too (that might be a pretty difficult job to get right if you're not used to handle upholstery)

I had a red black interior on my s2000 too which is what drew me to my car when i got it..

Z4MO had his seats re-covered, cracking job' did the door cards too. Might be worth PMing him - for guidance on price at least as he's up north, a long way away from you. Think Jonny Essex might have had it's done too... He's closer.

Not sure if I have the balls to do it, but you never know. Couple of initial questions in my mind such as how to get the leather off or is it done 'in situ'? Can it be done for you? Any disasters that people have seen?

Talking of removing the leather, how easy to refit if Transcal actually had an off the shelf product that fitted?

No news from the auto uphosterers as yet with a price.

Update on info so far.

Local trimmers have said £1500 another one said £750 for two seats so that's an easy choice.

Also been quoted £400 to have seats and door panels recoloured. They would need a few hours to do the work on site, preferably seats already removed and left to cure for 72 hours.

Any thoughts on any of this as it ain't a new car? It is 10 years old, good condition, probably worth £4.5-5k with 100k miles.

Hi JE, thanks for the PM advice, greatly appreciated - understanding that he's busy as you said, not going to waste his time by contacting until I'm convinced of which way I'm going.

On top of that there's the distance and logistics/costs from Dorset - I'd imagine that this isn't something he does in a day?

Hi Guys am I right in thinking that if you have heated leather it is more difficult to change it as the heater elements are attached to the leather itself.
 
OK, am intrigued by a bit of DIY at some stage over the next month or two when I've got time as I can't keep the car off road longer than necessary. The demos and examples look like a matter of care and time rather than complexity.

Think my current colour is Oregon Black and they have Oregon Dream Red. Question is, which finish to use out of gloss, matt, satin, semi-gloss, semi-matt?
