Suspension upgrade for my 2.0? options?

as above.... im ready to buy some new wheels but before i do that i want to get the suspension and ride height sorted 1st to avoid any rubbing etc.

im running with staggered 18" 108s atm and looking to upgrade to staggered 19" AVA Mephis once suspension is sorted.

currently have:

Front - "m sport" shocks with "m sport" springs (i assume as not had them off to check)
Rear - Bilstein B4 shocks with "m sport" springs (i think from a 3.0 as the ride height is very high)

im thinking of maybe getting a "kit" from german ebay like this, contains b4 shocks with matched eibachs. ive spoken with the seller and hes told me eibach dont make springs for the 2.0 engine, but H&R do so he will make up a kit to match (and leave out the rear B4s as i already had new 1s fitted this year)

OR...... am i better off going for coilovers? im not to clued up on these hence asking for the advice...

oh and a pic of its current ride height... which im sure u will all agree is crap :headbang: :thumbsdown:

 
What is the budget?

FWIW, BC do a coilover kit that is pretty reasonably priced. Has good reviews, and has a lot of scope for allowing you to dial them in to preference. (Ba3bas has a set and Gav run's BC struts on his air setup if I'm not mistaken)

I plan to pick a set up for my roadster.
 
That kit looks junk. You can get proper B12 for not much more...

Eibach do list a suitable pair of springs for the 2.0 - have you contacted them to see if they are still made?

I feel very good with the factory suspension. I beleive that a more tighter suspension would give a hard time to the car when it goew over bumpers etc. I wouldnt change it. But thats just my opinion
 
i was hoping i could get a set up (obvs only a budget set up) for under £500 ???

as its only a 2.0 and its never gonna be tracked or anything i was hoping a slight upgrade from the "m sports" was achievable? i.e B4s are same/slightly better than stock?(or is that the B6s?) and that the eibachs/H&Rs springs are slightly better than "m sport" springs (and slighty lower/better ride height?) as i already have the rear B4 ideally just getting a front set to match would be the best option financially?

unless its worth keeping an eye out for a 2nd hand set (but then it depends on miles in use i suppose??)

Eibach's don't seem any harsher to me, certainly a lot less crashy. They also don't snap like the OE springs which is why most people change them... a set of 4 is cheaper than a BMW pair.

I don't think you'll like a set of FK springs, most seem to get rid of them. They're firmer than Eibach IIRC.
Eibachs are better than stock springs in my mind because they don't fail.

B4s are OE equivalent but may be slightly better (certainly no worse and cheaper),
B6s are uprated and standard length
B8s are uprated and shorter to match lowering springs.
B12 is a kit of B8s and Eibachs.
B16 is a coilover kit which is listed for your motor. You could try the BC coilovers; reviews look good.

I've contacted Eibach to see if they still make/sell the 4 pot front springs but no response. If that pans out it would probably be the cheaper option, i.e. B4s up front and Eibachs all round.

Oh, and you should track it :P

Seriously though, I've heard so many good things about BC's kit. Sure they haven't had as much R&D for each specific car as the bigger companies but I think given some of the cars that run their kit, it speaks for itself as to their overall quality.

If you do go for them, make sure you grease up the adjusters and get a coilover sock to keep the dirt out of them.

looks like coilovers will be above my price range :(

looks like my best bet is to just get the front B4s to match existing rear B4s and just go with eibach/H&R springs all round, any idea on what the max drop on B4s is? (M sport is -15mm i believe)

Sorry, didn't make it clear: the ebay kit looked junk, not the BCs.
