Suspension refresh

I’ve just bought an E86 with 19” wheels (that I’m not too keen on). The o/s/f is rubbing and from information gathered from this forum I intend to refresh the suspension.
Im planning on replacing the wheels with 18” riva csl’s from bmautosport fitted with OE size tyres.

I’ve looked on the bilstein site which suggests I need a B8 (for sports suspension).
I’ve read that some people are using B4/B6 with msport springs.
I’m looking more for comfort over performance setup.
I’d be happy with a standard sport height.

If I were to go the B4/B6 route, do eibach do a “standard” Msport spring ??

Any advice/suggestions greatly appreciated

I have the Bilstein b4's, I wouldnt wanna go any stiffer than that on a road car especially if you have an emphasis on comfort. Already down some b roads i find im bouncing around alot more than id like.

I have eibach sportline springs which does improve the "stance" and will make the 18" csl's look better as they can look a bit underwheeled than the 19"s they are commonly seen in but again the eibach sportline springs certainly dont add comfort to a car that already rides pretty hard.

Im not sure if its possible to run bilstein b4's and standard M sport springs. I cant see why you couldnt and im sure someone somewhere does.

if your really happy with standard ride height and lean more towards comfort than "sport" id go with new M sport shocks by sachs or similar and m-sport springs if your rears havent already snapped.

I dont think theres much really that improves comfort for z4's but any alternative will almost certainly reduce it.

Note other opinions may differ

Buying OEM Sachs from somewhere like Autodoc on a deep discount day is a very cost effective option.

18" CSLs just emphasise they are fakes imo guessing they probably aren't double dish either

most CSL'S are fakes though, even the 19s.
The Riva DTM's do seem the best of the "fakes" and have a deeper concave on the rear i think they are 8"/8.5" IIRC
I was originally going to go 18" Riva DTM's and hunted around to see what other cars looked like on them, If you are running slightly lower i think they look really good but obviously not as nice as the 19"s. On standard ride height though i think they will look a bit small and out of place especially on the rear. Same happens for BBS LM's because of the smaller face of the wheel.

I’m on b4’s and eibach sport springs. No problems at all, certainly no less comfortable than OEM worn shocks and sport springs. More stable.

Changing from 19’s to 18 inch 108’s soon.

Previous owner put B4s on my 2.2 se and recently had a rear spring break. The garage used the shorter Sachs springs to replace them and the ride height is the same so I'm suspecting the car is on sport springs maybe? Rides fairly flat around bends, bit bouncy over bad roads, I was however nicely surprised when I went to see the car how 'comfortable' it was compared to another one I had tried. Although the other car was on old 60,000 mile suspension I think. Mine has 18" 224 wheels and 40 profile tyres.
