Surprising Insurance Price

I paid £391 fully comp for my coupe with Swift Cover last year and received my renewal price a couple of weeks ago at £329. I was quite impressed with that and was thinking about renewing, but thought i'll have a look on the price comparison sites and was amazed at how the prices have dropped. All came up with More Than as the cheapest with the results as follows; all with free courtesy car, protected no claims, and zero voluntary excess.
Confused - £223
Moneysupermarket - £225
Go Compare - £179
Compare the Market - £179 :D

So, going with More Than with CtM as you get a free meerkat toy!!! By the way i'm 49, with 9 yrs NCD, but still cant believe the price drop in 1 yr. Could this be to do with the discrimination ruling?

I did a bit of reading about this when I got my quotes, and its partly down to information.

Simply, the more information insurers have on certain cars being 'hot' (crashed, stolen etc more) the more they charge.

the z4c for what it is, hasn't flocked to the UK in record figures, so they don't have a lot of information to initially base quotes on.

Compare to a 2.0 turbo subaru imprezza wrx, 4 door saloon, similar market value, my insurance quote was 30 times as much. Yes, 30. They wanted £30,000 to insure me for 12 months fully comp.

Hopefully the discrimination ruling has worked out in our favour too. Might also be worth going to the insurance company directly and seeing if you can get an even better price (that is if you can live without Sergei keeping you company!)

The way insurance works is baffling.

A 1.5 turbo colt is twice the amount of my current car (Yaris). A z4c is 50 quid more.

Madness.

Yep...

My last few cars...

Z3M coupe £510
911-996 cab £880
Z4M roady £480
Z4 3.0 si coupe £277

WOW, glad i dropped on to this thread!

was just about to renew my insurance on 3 cars and was happy with the progress i had made getting the cost down. Was with admiral at some £1600 for all 3. Z4 35i , 552 touring F11 and an IQ with my 20 year old daughter on the policy.

Contacted Chris Knott and it went down by some £300 then back to Admiral and it went down a bit more, saw the OP thread and looked at CTM and wow what a difference. now another £300 off.

a few phone calls and nearly £600 off. NOW THATS WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT!

and yes, like for like (except no voluntary excess on the Z4 and the 525) so a complete result.

Glad to be of help :roundel: I thought i might as well spread the word, though i,ve never phoned up the insurance company yet. Might be worth a try to get it reduced further
