Supra GR

Just back from a test drive in the Toyota Supra 3.0, as I don’t want a convertible as I’ve already had six and prefer coupes, I’ve been looking at a long term replacement for the Z4MC in very slow time and had a day off work so decided to book a couple of test drives. I drove the supra today which was run in with 10k on the clock, although it was quick I was somewhat disappointed with the lack of feel and drivers engagement during the drive which consisted of both high speed motorways and city driving. Being 6ft 3 I did find the cabin big enough and more room than my current Z4MC and was a reasonably nice place to be with the HUD, however the stereo with JBL 12 speaker system was poor. The two main points I took away was that I found the steering very light even in sports mode and the brakes were extremely grabby regardless how much pressure you applied. Has anyone else driven one or the equivalent new z4 and how did you find it. Overall it will be crossed off my list for a replace the car. I have the new Audi TT RS booked in for a test drive next week and would like to get a drive in the Alpine, however not many garages around so might take some time to arrange!

I got one new last year and have regretted it ever since. It’s a nice car, but not twice a 35iS at twice the price. You may prefer the M2 comp coming from a z4m.

Thanks for your response, it’s nice to know other peoples views as well, especially when the test drive is so fresh in my mind.

What else are you cross shopping? Have you already eliminated Caymans? Quite a few examples of the 981 GT4 and 981 GTS on Autotrader.

Yes I really liked the look of the supra when it came out, so was somewhat disappointing striking it off my list. I do have a Porsche 997 gen 2 on the list and possibly a cayman however the GTS is PDK so off the list and the latest GTS 4.0 is currently out of my price range.

Look forward to your thoughts on the TTRS  the 5 cyl 2.5t is quite a performer :driving: though not having a manual option is a big negative for me :(

I'd be interested to hear your feedback on the new TTS. I've had my eyes on that, along with the Cayman/Boxster S too.

it does look good at some angles

but there's just too much metal in the rear haunch

I am enjoying it more now that it's the dog car as it has all the mod cons and my dog can say hello to me in the cabin

The G29 M40i is very quick. I find the steering has a decent weight to it and gets heavier and firmer in sports mode.
The brakes aren’t grabby and I haven’t experienced anything like that in over 4000 miles.
There seem to be plenty of new owners on here who are very happy with their cars.

I’ve watched a few reviews on the Supra and they seem mostly positive. Shame that neither the Harmon Kardon or JBL sound systems aren’t up to the job in either though in cars of this price tag.

OP. you might find this topic interesting if you're thinking of an Alpine.
