Summers here.....and then the roof motor fails!

Hi All,
As expected, the roof motor has just failed due to the missus continually putting the roof up and down in the fine weather we've been having. The release valve is working, as I can put it up and down manually, but want to get it fixed and relocated.
Could Number5 ping me, so I can see if he can fit the car in to his schedule for rework, as he's just down the M4.

Cracked manifold, roof motor failure.....anything else I should be watching out for on a 2.0 LCI Z4??

I've been putting the roof down and up regularly for the past 4 1/2 years and the roof motor hasn't failed. Maybe that's where your wife has been going wrong as she was putting it up and down!

Was there water in with the pump or perhaps it was sitting drowning for a while before failing.

Drain holes cleaned regularly?

Would think there's a few hundred thousand times of use before the pump would fail just through use.

Also.....

Window regulator will go.
Springs will break.
Mysterious things will happen as the battery will need replaced.
Brake disc will need replaced.
Brake pads will need replaced.
All fluids will need replaced.

Of course you might only have the manifold and roof motor issues!

You should be able to private message number 5 now as I believe you have enough posts

Happened to me last year!

Bought my car in Ireland and had it for a week before I took it to Sweden.
Collected from the port, put the roof down but it wouldn't go back up!!

Luckily it was great weather for 2 months here :)

Every car has its foibles and the Z4 is no exception. I have just changed a broken spring, water pump done before I bought it and replaced brake pads ( which can happen at any time) . But as soon as the foibles are resolved or checked then it will be a great car to own

Thanks Markplant. I've replied to OP's PM, so hopefully we'll sort out a date to relocate and revive it.

My roof motor spits the dummy out the pram from time to time. It's already in the boot so I just give it a little tap and it fires back to life. On that note, does anyone know if there's a quick fix for this intermittent problem without swapping out the motor?

Depending on where you are, and whether you want to refurb yours or fit a refurbed unit, either DuckLakeView or Bowser can sort it.

Or maybe Durham Dave.

Apart from the whole water/relocation thing, is there any preventative measures that can be taken (oiling bits and pieces?) to maintain it?
