Suggestions for an adhesive to stick to carpet

I've bought a nice set of floor mats for the car, and they are intended be retained by 3" velcro bands, one on the mat and one on the floor. The bands have a sticky back, and the one for the mat sticks to it just fine. However the one for the floor has just peeled straight off the existing carpet and won't stick at all. So, looking for suggestions on what might work well for that purpose: there's definitely something unusual about the current carpet in that respect.

On my other BMW X3, for the mats it has small plastic retainers which rotate to lock them in, and that works well, so I am a bit surprised I can't see any on the Z4, unless they are hidden in some way.

what about putting some non slip mat underneath.. we put this under the rugs that are on laminate floors in our house and they dont move an inch

You should be able to use one side of the velcro on back off the mat that will directly lock onto the fibers of the carpet without needing to stick the other side of the velcro on the carpet. Probably the side of the velcro with hook kind of things.

I'm sure my Z4 had velcro strips stitched to the base carpeting, and the OE mats stuck to that.
